What can you tell me about dental "onlays". They substitue for silver or plastic fillings and resemble the appearance of porcelin. Do they stand up over time and what are the risks or downsides to restoring a decayed tooth with them assuming there is enough tooth left for the onlay to attach to.
I've been told by my dentist that if I don't pay for "Premium" crowns on my upper front teeth, there will always be a gap at the gum line as the regular crowns DentaQuest discounts will never fit without the gap. But Permium ones will always fit. It's about 2 times more money out of my pocket. I need advice? I don't expect you to discuss the dollar amount another dentist charges, but I do need your opinion as to why inferior crowns/caps are used as a general practice, according to the office of my dentist, and your views on the difference between a regular vs premium crown. Finally, is it your opiinon I will have the gap with one but as promised no gap with the other? I have an appointment to begin the part of treatment on the week of June 14th. Won't you please give me your opinion and any other information available prior to that date? Thanks
My daughter is turning three on tuesday. I noticed she has a hole in her front left tooth. I also noticed that her right front tooth is starting to blacken. I realize that I have to get her to a dentist, but was wondering what could have caused this. She does brush. She also still uses a pacifier. I was told that this may cause damage to the teeth. Is that true?

Great article on lip piercing. What about tongue piercings?
Dr. Williams-- I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and in need of some dental work. (I'm a procrastinator of the WORST kind!)--I've got a filling that feels broken, but only hurts once in a while. (However, I don't want it to get worse.) I've also got a root canal that I never went back to have crowned. (It's been a little over a year.) And it's getting a bit...sensitive. Is there anything I can do now, while I'm pregnant? Please keep in mind--I'm a WHIMP when it comes to pain, and if any serious work needs done, I can't do it without novacaine. :-) Thank u for your help. Lynette
Is there a way to remove stains from bonding?
Is it dangerous or harmful if a tooth grows out from the roof of the mouth?

I need a apico (surgery to remove an infection in a root canal). What should I expect?
Within the past year or so I have started to get anxiety attacks when in the dentist and receiving any kind of service. It doesn't matter the type of service it is. What can I request that the doctor does to help with this when going to the dentist? Or what do I do in this type of situation, because it is really really making my trips to the dentist very horrible and it has caused me not to go as needed, I have some major dental work that is needed. Please point in the right direction, because I now have a new dentist and I need to make an appointment with them like yesterday. Thank You. Candice Adams
Is it necessary to have sealants put on my children's teeth? What are the benefit?
My teeth chip a lot. They don't hurt, but I can tell they are chipped because of the roughness. Do chipped teeth need to be immediately taken care of, or are they of no harm if not chipped at the baseline or near the gum?
I think I may have to have an apico surgery....What causes the infection of a root canal?....Is my dentist to blame?
My child is 3 1/2 yrs old. My Mom is a dental assistant and strongly recommends he see a dentist for a routine check-up. If he is not having problems with his teeth and we brush his teeth everyday, do you recommend the routine check-up? I think he would be too scared and it would be a waist of time. Please advise!!
My 7 year old daughter lost her two front teeth just over 3 months ago and there is no sign of her permanent teeth coming in. The teeth became loose and came out on their own (no trauma). Should we be worried that the permanent teeth are taking so long to come in?
Can I use those over the counter teeth whiteners if I have veneers or caps?
My nephew grinds his teeth alot as he sleep through out the night and I have questioned my brother about it, he claim's that he has talked to a dentist and he was told that my nephew needs to grow out of this trend. I want to know if thats true and if this is good advice. My nephew is three years old and grinds them pretty badly as he sleeps, I'm worried about the damage of cracking, chipping, and breaking of his teeth. I don't want him to go through that pain. And the last question is would a retainer fix or be best for this problem.
What can you recommend for someone who is an excessive nighttime teeth-grinder? (So much that mouthguards are being worn down, there is concern about teeth cracking, etc.) I am having a hard time getting advice past wearing the mouthguard every night and establishing ways to decrease stress (yoga, relaxation, etc, before bed.) Can you please offer me some more suggestions? Thank you!
I was just informed that I will need an apico surgery for my #3 tooth. This tooth obviously had a root canal done on it 5 years ago. For years, I've been questioning a bone like mass right near this tooth. My dentist tells me that it is probably my jawbone but I was wondering, could it be a left over root from when I had my widsom tooth pulled? If so, could this be the reason why I have an abscess by that apico tooth?
I am 30 years old and my bite has become more and more crooked over the years. When I open my mouth my jaw deviates to the left. These issues have been casuing me tooth pain and jaw pain and my dentist has had to shave down certain teeth to keep them from banging together and causing pain. Am I too old for braces? Would they even help? What do you suggest?
I had porcelin filling place in my teeth and all of them fell out in less than 6 months. Now I have holes in my teeth and the dentist wants to do roots canal pocedures and veneers on all my teeth. Has this ever happen any body else. And why would the fillings came come out so fast. IN PAIN AND NEED ADVICE
I have a broken front tooth. It's one of the biggest front teeth out of the two. I just broke it tonight. It was a tooth that had a root canal because the nerve got damaged from an injury. They put a temporary filling in, but they never finished it because my visit for the real filling I advised them that I found out I was pregnant, so they said they wanted to wait. I need to know if there is anything temporary I can do to fix this, to make it look better, and to make the pain go away atleast until I can figure out how to get to the dentist. I currently have no health insurance.
I have been having a pain in my lower right jaw for a couple of days, and headaches. Today it feels a little like it might be my tooth, but it mainly hurts to open my jaw up really wide, or to chew. Any suggestions? Or should I schedule an appointment with my dentist? And if so, how immediately?
I have 3 teeth that have started to decay and have holes. What would I need to have done to save those teeth?
I'm 23 years old and I don't smoke or drink coffee (nor have I ever) but my teeth are starting to yellow. I was wondering what I can do about this using over the counter products. Which products are the best and are they "paints" or do they actually remove the discoloration?
IS THERE ANYTHING LIKE NOVACAINE I CAN PURCHASE OVER THE COUNTER? I HAVE A WISDOM TOOTH COMING IN SIDEWAYS AND CAN NOT GET ANYTHING DONE TO IT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. PLEASE HELP, I AM IN A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN!!!!!
On the inside of my lower jaw, back in the molar area, a bump under the gum formed and became very sore below my back molar, eventually the bump broke through the gum and what was exposed looked like a small piece or chip of tooth. Eventually, it came out all together. Now,just as that side has started to heal, the same thing is going on on the other side. I recently had a routine cleaning, with a fine check-up. I have not had any extractions, and I do have some mandibular tori. what is going on, and is this something to be concerned about?
Do any of the doctors use laser instead of needles because I am very afraid of needles.
I have red sore which I have been told is ulcer on the right side on the roof of my mouth for about three days. Is there any over the counter products I should use? Or should I be worried it may be cancer?
Do most general dentists refuse to see children under 6? What cons\cerns should I have if my child has a heart murmur? Should I change my subscribed dentist to one who will see a child under 6 when there is only one under 6 person on my family DentaQuest plan?
I was wondering if electric toothbrushes are any better than good old fashioned brushing.
is the crest whitenning strips actually good for your teeth?
When would an onlay be preferable to a crown? Is one procedure more expensive than the other? Is an onlay as durable as a crown?
I am a diabetic. Do I have to do anything before attending the dentist. I am very afraid of the dentist because of the pain.
What preventive procedures can I use to strenthen my teeth, they chip very easy?
I had a tooth pulled and am thinking about getting a dental implant. I also am planning pregnancy. Is it safe to do this procedure while pregnant? Or is better to hold off on either getting pregnant or the implant procedure? Right now I am wearing a flipper. Also, if pregnant shortly after the implant procedure, will any pregancy related gum problems affect the healing process?
Hello, I am experiencing teeth sensitivity for the 1st time in my life and want to know what may have caused it and how to keep it from happening again...I am 32 years old. Thanks!
2 months ago i had my wisdom teeth cut out. about a week ago i started to feel like i had a bone chip in my right lower gum area. it started swelling and a little bit of white started to show through. i went to the dentist and found out it was my jawbone coming through. i am 35 years old. my dentist said that they can go in and shave some of my jawbone so my gum can cover it up. is this a good thing to be doing?
I'm a 27yr. old female smoker that has serve gum disease. About a year ago, I had the procedure done that deep cleans under the gum line. Since that procedure was, done my gums have gotten alot worst! My gums infront of two teeth on my bottom of my mouth is almost totally gone causing me serious pain! I have a tooth that needed a crown that I got a root canal on in February of this year and I have yet to get the crown. Yesterday I was eating a nut and the tooth cracked in half. Presently I am having problems getting a doctor appointment b/c I am awaiting a new copy of my card. So, I thought in the meantime I would get some advice. Thanks for any information!
I have a bump/lump on my gums in the back of my mouth. Lower right side. what is this...
I recently found out I was pregnant and am approximately 4 weeks along. I had planned on scheduling dental procedures to remove several damaged teeth including two broken wisdom teeth and it would require either multiple visits with local anesthetic and a very large amount of stress/panick related trauma OR one visit involving hospital check in and being put under for the procedure to be done all at once. Since finding out I was pregnant, I'm concerned about doing EITHER method, as mentally I have a history of severe panic which would lead to large amounts of stress and high risk of stress related miscarriage in the case of repeated visits, and I've read that being put under could cause a high risk also (please note the information about being put under was gained from the web, so I can't verify it). I do plan to talk to an OB about the matter as I am not comfortable putting off a procedure until after labor with it being a good 8 months away, but wanted a more clear answer about the hospitalization method. As I said, repeated visits are a high risk for me, which was discovered while I was growing up due to the stress related dangers. Any information you can provide about the process used in hospitalization procedures would be greatly appreciated as I'm concerned that waiting could harm my babies health much more.
I am 27 years old with crooked front teeth because I use to suck my thumb. I have a fake crown tooth on one of my two front teeth because I broke my front tooth years ago. Can I still get braces to straighten out my teeth even with the crown on my front tooth?
My 3 yr old daughter fell and chipped her two front teeth last summer. Today I noticed the discoloration in her right front tooth was worse and there is a bump in the gum above it. does this signify an infection and a need to have the tooth pulled?
in 1990 i chipped my two front teeth. the left tooth basically fell out and was placed back in and wired to the adjacent teeth. In 1996 I experienced a terrible infection and had to have root canals done on the two front teeth and the other tooth next to the front left. I then chipped one of the front again in 1999. In 2003 my front left felt loose and I apparently had a tooth that was "egg shell" like and had to have a post put in to reinforce the tooth. I have had recurring infections since then. I was told I was on borrowed time before this tooth would have to be taken out. My root canal apparently was unsuccesful on the left tooth and was advised to get a partial. I wanted something that was more real and fixed rather than a partial and was wondering about a bridge. My right tooth is in similar shape. So far I have not had any problems with it but my dentist said it isn't a matter of "if" but "when", and wants to remove both the front teeth. I was given an approx. quote of $4500 for a bridge. It is more money than I was wanting to spend..but I want results that I will be happy and satisfied with. I have suffered with these discolored, pain in the you know what teeth for 16 years! I am only 26 years old. Will the fixed bridge be worth the money? I want something that looks natural, are porcelin briges long lasting and natural looking? My insurance will pay half for a partial but nothing for a bridge. The partial was going to cost about 1500. Please, any advice would be helpful..Do I really have any other options??
i have an absess in my front top tooth and my dentist wants to pull it, is that safe?
I slipped on the ice and hit the right side of my face where I had novacaine. the right side of my face was bruised including a black eye. I went for xrays and I do not have any broken bones. It's been 3 weeks and my cheek bone is very tender and there seems to be a small lump on it. could there be nerve damage?
My toddler has two front top chipped teeth. A few weeks ago she fell and hurt her mouth and had a fat lip. I did not notice any chipped teeth then. Today out of the blue her front teeth are chipped and she did not fall. Could they have already been damaged from her fall early.Could she had chipped them while eating.
Hello, can you advise me on a persistent gum problem? I damaged a small area of gum behind and between my two upper front teeth (while eating)about two months ago. Some of the skin covering the gum got scraped away, leaving a raw surface underneath. This made the gum swell and bleed and it was painful to eat. All the rest of my gums are in good condition. I couldn't see my hygienist until a month later. She cleaned and scaled my teeth and gave me some Chlorhexidine gel to put on the damaged gum every evening for four days. I did this and have also kept up brushing and flossing, but now, two weeks later, this damaged gum is still hurting, still bleeding (even spontaneously after a night's sleep!) and doesn't react to any antibacterial mouthwashes. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the gum to heal? Do you think that salt-water mouth rinses could help, or any specific product? Why is it so difficult to get this to heal? (My hygienist seemed to think that this was a very small problem, but I'm worried about this inflammation and bleeding and fed up with the pain!) Many thanks for your advice.
i have to turn my dental partial to be repaired so can i use to cover the gap in my front teeth temporarily until i get it back?
I have some extreme soreness under my last molar in my bottom rear gums. It is swollen and there seems to be a white dot at the tooth and gumline. I feel this is an abcess, wat are the possibilities and wat can i do myself before goin to the dentist.? THanks DAVE
For the past few weeks my sister has been getting severe headaches because of her wisdom teeth (which need to be pulled out), so I tried to research for things she could take or do to ease the pain until she does get them pulled. So far I haven't had any luck at finding anything (besides things like Advil/Tylenol/Excedrine, etc.) and I was wondering if you would be able to suggest anything she could do to help the pain abate until she finally does get her wisdom teeth out? Please help because sometimes the pain is so bad that she can't sleep and she has even thrown up. Thank you!
my 16 year old son just pulled what looked like the tiniest tooth from where his wisdom tooth shoul come out. He has another one on the other side. could it be deformed wisdom teeth, when I say tiniest I mean tiny. Thanks
For the past five months my teeth have been aching as if I've been clenching them--which I don't believe I have. They also are not meeting properly--usually the right side meets first, but this can change to both meeting or the left meeting --and the change can be just a couple of hours apart! I've had this mouth for 53 years now and this problem makes me feel like I've recently gotten someone else's teeth! Do I have any reason, other than the obvious discomfort, to be worried? Thank you for your help.
I am 30 weeks pregnant and need to have some decaying teeth removed and replaced. My doctor has okayed the work but the dentist is a bit worried about doing the work while I am pregnant. Is it okay to go ahead and have the work done or do I need to wait? Thank You
I am 22 weeks pregnant. I had two cavities on my front teeth. So I had them bonded about two months ago. I noticed the other day a piece chipped off the bottom part of my teeth. I am stressing out because these are my front teeth. Why would they be chipping? How long should the bonding last? And should my dentist fix it without charge? Is there maybe a better solution to repair it or just to rebond it? Thank you so much!
Is porcelain filling better than composit? It costs about 600 euros more. Is it worth it?
I have an abseth tooth that has made the whole left side of my face swell up and its very painful. It was a 3 day weekend so I suffered threw it and went to the dentist on tuesday. He opened the tooth and left it that way then cut my gums to let it drain. He put me on clindamycin 150mg 2 pills every 6 hours and gave me vicoden. As the night went on the pain became worse and when I woke up the swelling was even more. Why wont it drain and what is the worst case senario if it wont.
Hi, I have a back molar with a resin (white) filling - when I am chewing if a grain is bitten on that tooth it causes a sharp pain with a throb afterwards - I was told by my dentist that I need a porcelin filling - I am questioning it as the filling is rather large and close to the nerve I cannot understand how this will make a difference - I had this resin filling taken out and another put in because they said it was leaking & that is why I was getting pain and now they are teliing me again that is why the pain is there. Thankyou Carol
Hello, I am 31 yrs old and my dentist recommends I get my 2 top wisdom teeth pulled due to decay. The oral surgen indicated that I had extremely deep roots. None of my wisdom teeth are impacted and they have all surfaced. Should I be concerned about the fact that my roots are deep. Will I be at greater risk for complications? Very nervous... Thanks.

My 8 year old has a large lump in his gum above his upper 1st molar. This is a baby tooth. There is also a dark area at the root of this tooth. He only has pain when he pushes on the lump. Should I be concerned about infection? Should I encourage him to wiggle the molar even though it is not loose? He has had other permanant teeth come in behind baby teeth which we quickly had him wiggle out, but this lump is on the outside of the gum Thanks
I have a child that just turned 2 years old. Is now a good age for her to start seeing a dentist? If so, what should I expect to happen at her first appointment?

Is having a lip peircing canerous? or harmful?
if a filling fell out can it be refill?
My dentist says I have a hot tooth (back upper molar). Novacaine rarely numbs it all the way and wears off quickly. I pre-medicate with valium and realize that stress could cause the novacaine to wear off more quickly. The dentist has tried to drill and fill this tooth three times; first was unsuccessful; second was a composite filling the didn't seal to the tooth; third was a temporary filling after the novacaine wore off; and, I'm going back in a few days to get a second composite filling. Is there anything additional that can be done to help this tooth get filled? I've been in pain for four weeks and I don't know if it's the nerve being stressed, residual pain from the filling or the root dying. X-rays show that the root is still okay. My dentist seem reluctant to try nitrous oxide - would it help?
Is it necessary that i have periodontal cleanings every 6 months? i floss everyday. My insurance doesnt cover this type of cleaning and its very uncomfortable. Thanks for your time.
I am a 35 year old woman and I've been told by my dentist that I have gingivitis. I have had my gums skailed twice and I switched to an electric toothbrush. I have had straight teeth all my life. Recently I noticed that my buttom set of teeth looks to be shifting side ways. What can I do to straighten them back out? I was considering retainers or braces? What can I do? Help:)
I went today to have 2 teeth filled and he had to inject the novocaine 4 times because I could feel him drilling my tooth--not pressure, but sharp pain. He tried several times but I couldn't take it. My whole mouth, lips, and tongue were numb, but he would hit the right spot on my tooth and it would send me through the ceiling! He ended up just putting temporary fillings in and said I have to reschedule. I don't know if I can do that again....why could I feel it? Next time he is going to use laughing gas on me, but I dont see how that will make me not feel pain? Is that normal, what should I do?

My four year old grandson had a fall which split his lip and may have loosened one of his upper teeth. We took him to the e.r. where they glued his lip together. He did complain of his tooth hurting after the fall. About a week or so later, we noticed one of his upper front teeth is turning brown. Since these are baby teeth, is there anything that needs to be done? Thank you.

I have a tori on both sides of my jaw bone. Have had for more than twenty years. They were small and no problem until recently. The one on the left side has grown a lot and is pressing against my cheek, and has ulcerated the inside of the cheek. The skin over the tori has ulcerated several times. My jaw movement is being restricted. I have an appoinment with my dentist in a few weeks. Can the removal be done under local anaesthetic? I have a real problem with most medications. I had to stay in a hospital overnight and missed 10 days of work from anaesthetic complications when my wisdom teeth were removed. How painful is recovery? I cant take narcotics. I also have a bad gag reflex.
#3 would hurt occasionally when I would grind it for 2 years. It then started to ache and I had a root canal done my an eminent Endo. 5 months it was fine - now it hurts again. (I have no #2 and 4-5-6 are also RCT. The oddest thing is sensing cold - perhaps at the base of the tooth at the roof. We have basically taken the tooth out of occlusal and I still have this unexplainable pain/sensitivity to cold. No one can explain it. The endo and my dentist both say the xray is clear and don't suspect cracked tooth syndrome because of the time (3yrs) that its been xrayed, etc. It is crowned. Any new thoughts? I wear a night guard and my gum health is pefect. My sinuses are clean.
Hi there, I have a temporary bridge that I got quite a few months ago and just recently had to have a root canal on one of the teeth. The Dentist put in a temporary filling and it has since come out and the back of my tooth broke off. I have put temporary cement in there for now. How long do I have before I risk an infection. I am in a lot of pain. Thanks. :)
I have a 6 yrs old daughter and her baby tooth came out, its been 1 month and i dont see her permanent teeth showing, do i have to worry cause it was loose but it didnt fall out by itself she pulled it out, will it grow back.
From a very long story, I was recently patch tested for allergies to bonding agents relating to fillings for teeth. My dentist worked with my allergist to test me for the materials found in composite fillings, crowns, inlays, and root canal. The results were positive for composite fillings so they are no longer an option for me. Are there any differences in composite fillings between manufacturers where I could have a reaction to bonding agents for some but not others? Inlays are very expensive and I really don't want to get the traditional silver fillings. I've been looking all over the Internet, but information on people allergic to dental fillings is scarce.
Hi sir, I am a 33yr old male student currently working on a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. Just under 3 yrs ago I had my teeth whitened and also had 2 porcelin veneer caps applied to the ft. 2 top teeth (previously broken and bonded because of a sports accident and stained). My natural teeth whitend to a B1 and the 2 vaneers were ordered to match. The initial results were astonishing and the vaneers matched perfectly, however they are now appearing to be darkening grayer and yellower than my natural teeth. I went in for an exam and cleaning yesterday and discussed my concerns with the dentist. However, he is telling me that vaneers do not change in color and my other teeth are just getting brighter from enamel wear and tear and transparency, but i have not been bleaching and know for a fact that my natural teeth are not currently B1's (because of all the coffee I drink). This does not make any sense to me at all. He is reccommending that i have 2 more vaneers placed next to the caps at another $2200 to make them blend in better. I don't understand this because they are clearly off in color now and it even shows up in pictures, yet it didnt before. I think there is a problem with something underneath the vaneers (bonding agents) or a poor replacement causing the vaneers to change color. Is this possible and what are your thoughts? Should the dentist replace the vaneers for me? I thought that these would be looking great for years...I will be getting a second opinion because I need to know if the front two vaneer caps need to be redone instead of appling more to additional teeth. I feel ripped off and cheated. Thanks for your help, Tarek

My dentist said I have peridontal pockets. I have only been with him for 2 years and he has never cleaned my teeth with an instrument. He only uses the "sand-blaster" with baking soda. That doesn't seem good enough to me. BUT he wants to put Perio Chips in every three months for a year. The cost is very expensive and our insturance does not cover them. Are these worth the expense?
My daughter is 6 years old, is she too young to get braces.
If my daughter is to young to get braces cause shes only 6 yrs old what would the dentist recommend

The pain continues and no relief with advil etc...can you advise? thanks
I am 16 weeks pregnant and I have an unbearable pain in my tooth. It actually is decayed and I think that its reached the nerves because the pain is horrible. Can I get the tooth pulled while being pregnant or do I have to hold off and wait till after the pregnancy?

are night guards safe, can they lossen your teeth or pull them out? i have recently purchaed some from my dentist and find them a little uncomfortable and am a little sceptical to using them, any advise?
I had a very timy amount of decay on the back rough surface of two of my frontteeth. I asked my dentist to take care of this and he said no lets just watch it for a while. Now I have much larger decay and am very unhappy with his not bothering to explain that choice. I will be going to another dentist for a numbe rof reasons but wanted to know why he might have elected to do nothing until the problem got worse?..........also both front teeth also have cracks. I do not want to get caps because of how different they look than your other teeth and how extensive the work is for that. Will DentaQuest pay a portion of the cost for veneers and would that be a viable altrnative to caps in my case? Thank you M
I am 6 months pregnant and have a wisdom tooth that is broken into two pieces one of the pieces is moveable but I think it's still connected to the root because to much movement causes pain, it is gettint to the point where I can barely eat and I also get food caught in it forcing me to eat on the other side of my mouth which is now beginning to get sensitive also, can I have this tooth pulled and also have the others that are beginning to get sensitive pulled too. I'd rather have nothing back there, and all the while still have a dafe pregnacy.
My daughter is 4+ and she accidentally caused one of her lower front teeth to loosen, it hasnt fallen out yet, but I'm sure it will. Is it going to grow back, considering her age? Thanks
I recently went to the dentist and had 8 fillings in one sitting, my jaw hurts really bad now to where I cannnot open my mouth. My dentist said that it is because I have a small mouth and the anestetic has a small area to dispurse in...... is this true? Also how long will it take to heal?
What is a great way to make my childrens teeth whiter?
My health coverage has denied me dental partials saying that it was not a medical necessity to which I don't understand the meaning of that. How am I suppose to eat without them.
I have one question. I don't have dental INS so I've been putting of going to the dentist but I have what seems to feel like a hole in one of my tooths. I can feel it with my tongue and food seems to be getting caught in it. I can fit the tip of a tooth pick in the hole. I looked at a tooth chart online and it seems to be my 2nd premolar(bicuspid)on my upper jaw. I was wondering what could have caused this and what measurements would need to be taken to repair it. I was afraid it will cost an arm and a leg to fix and it doesn't bother me but I'm sure it will only get worse. thank you for your time.
HELP! I am 16 weeks pregnant and need a root canal. I am terrified of the dentist! I went in this past week for the root canal, they gave me 3 doses of novacain and as soon as he started drilling, I almost went thru the roof. He gave me more novacain and restarted, but I could still feel pain. I had them stop and fill the hole. The dentist thought I had an infection and that is why the novacain was not working. So, I am on amoxacylin and he wants me back in a week to finish. I am terrified! I am not sleeping and feeling extremely anxious. I just want to be put to sleep and they can't do that while I am pregnant. he said to take Valium and that he will put the epinephrin in my novacain next time - oth of which my OBGYN frowned upon. Now I am not only a nervous reck for my own pain....but can this all harm the baby. I am terrified that I will never go back, my poor husband does not know what to do with me. Is there any say way to sedate me? Can I Have the Nitrous Oxide gas? Any info you can give me would be GREAT! Thanks

Hi, I went for my regular dental check up and cleaning. My teeth were o.k. Two days later I developed a tooth ach and sensitivity to cold on the top and bottom left fang teeth and surrounding area. It is now 2 days that I have this sensitivity and ach, which is constant and sometimes painfull. I chewed a synthetic cork to help pacify the ach today. What could cause the ach and could it go away on its own? How long should the ach persist before calling my dentist? Sincerely, Eric
hello dr, im 26 and have had a veneer fitted for the past 3 yrs, but for the past 6 months i have had gum disease directly above that tooth no where else. I floss and brush it regulary, is there anything else i can do? many thanks.
Hello, I have just found out I am pregnant (only just so about 4 weeks) and am very worried because I had an amalgam filling fitted last week when I would have been 3 and a half weeks pregnant. I had no idea I was pregnant as had been trying for a while and was worried the tooth would get worse, so thought better to sort it out now than wait until I get pregnant- but I already was! I am extremely worried I may have seriously damaged my baby. Please help!
My 7-year olds incisors (not the middle 2 but the ones beside them) are growing out of the top of his gums, way higher than the rest did. Is there a way to correct this now?
My little girl, she will be 13 next month, is having a great deal of difficulty with her teeth. They are so close together they hurt her mouth. She complains of aches and pains in her jaws. The dentist has recommended braces. Actually, two different dentists have recommended braces. Are braces for cosmetic or medical purposes? Thanks, Steven E. Adams, BS, LC Licensed Chaplain

For the past couple of months I have had a very hard lump above my last top molar (on my gum) on the left side of my mouth. It does not hurt at all. I have never had any dental work in this area...I do know my upper wisdom teeth had not grow in yet as of last year. I had seen an oral surgeon who said they would come in shortly if there was room for them...Just the other day the back molar with the lump above it was very painful. The pain was/is very intense and comes and goes all day long. It is not sensitive to cold or heat but it hurts if I bite down or touch it. Is it possible the new pain and the lump are connected? What could these problems suggest??
I've just gotten a partion to fill in 2 gaps in my lower right rear and 1 gap in my lower left rear. Am I suppose to be able to eat with this partial on (it's one unit)
I have two bumps on my jaw below my teeth on my gumline on my lower jaw. They feel like bone bumps, I looked online and see they may be due to grinding my teeth. Are these bumps in my jaw bone something to worry about?
Ok so i see a really clueless answer to a question i see on here. I asks "my husbands tooth is rotting. blah blah blah, can it cause problems" The answer is very vague and what to expect from someone who makes cash by having people come in and ask them this question.. What i wanted to know and what this person probably wants to know is, once its rotting away and below the gum line partially (one corner of mine is below the gum line). I mean what really is gonna happen, wont it just rot away and dissapear if u take care of your mouth? Im wondering cause my throat hurts terrible, not liek the normal strep or anything, liek its cut or has something growing in it, i was thinking i got cancer , and theres no way imma go to a doc for that ill die when my time comes i cant afford to go to a doc for him to tell me i cant afford his help, i allready know this, cause i cant afford to go, im just wondering if this rot would cause some sort of tounge/thorat right behind the tounge problems. Can i just let it keep rotting and ittl be fine? i cant afford a dentist either way , so please dotn tell me i need it checked out, cause i just said i cant, unless you wanna pay for it for me.
I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago (Nov. 28) and I discovered for the first time two rather deep and impressive new holes in my lower jaw. Apparently this is were the wisdom teeth were and it will fill in (eventually). Is that true? I'm not going to always have two very deep holes in my mouth for the rest of my life?
One week ago, I had some silver fillings replaced with composite material. The dentist told me that the fillings were rather large, so it took some time, and a lot of drilling to put them in. The problem is, a week has past, and I still can't put any pressure on that side without feeling alot of pain. Is this normal, and if it's normal how long will it last?

My 16 month old daughter is getting all her top teeth 1st. She has her 2 bottom teeth but nothing else on the bottom. When will she get more bottom teeth?
hello, I had a root canal done in 2003 (according to my dentist who did it). I am having complications and the right side of my face is swollen. It was a gradual pain that started with what I thought was my teeth moving because I have braces. The pain gradually got worse and the 2nd day I finally went to the dentist because the pain was unbearable. He took x-rays and told me that one of the nerve endings was a bit swollen and referred me to an endodontist because he could not do 2nd root canals. My question us should he not be responsible for the bills since he did not get it done correctly the first time? Please help because i don't believe I should have to pay again for an even more expensive root canal had it been done correctly the first time.
My son has been wearing a retainer since his braces were removed for some time now. He suddenly noticed some bumps on the roof of his mouth. He says they are there all the time, but sometimes appear to be more pronounced and sometimes nearly flat. Wearing the retainer, which he was instructed to do during the night time, made these bumps worse. He is now quite concerned that this may be other problems, but I am quite convinced this is related to either his dental hygiene or retainer related. Your thoughts, please.
I have dentures, have had for about 28 years now, I am having trouble with the bottom dentures, my dentist said it appeared as though my jaw bone was coming through the gums. He suggested implants, is there any other options out there for me to have my dentures.
I recently had an apico done on tooth # 13. It has been 5 weeks and I still have pain in the gum area. The xrays do not show anything, but they also did not show anything before the apico and it took me 6 months to convince the dentist that there was a problem. When the oral surgeon went in, he found the infection behind the tooth. I went yesterday for a follow up and the oral surgeon said there is nothing more he can do. I am still in a great deal of pain. What should I do?
Im wondering if I have a novacain allergy. Recently after being given novacain at a dentist appointment. my heart started palpatating so strongly that I almost stopped the procedure. Instead I said a quick prayer , continued and said nothing of it. I was not the least bit apprehensive or nervous about having the dental work done. I have experienced this before, but always thought it was my imagination, as I never had this problem as a child. However I could'nt dismiss it this time as my heart was beating so strongly that it really scared me. What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction to novacain?
my mouth burns all the time when i smoke and i fine it hard to eat because my gums hurt even my lips are burning what is going on am i getting cancer in my mouth or somthing
I live in NC. I've not seen a dentist in about 10 years...(except for an accident which resulted in emergency root canals & bonding on my 4 front teeth, about 4 years ago!) These are failing now & I have no insurance. My breath is getting HORRENDOUS & I am losing my mind with anxiety over the whole situation. Does ANY one do dentistry for middle class working families with NO insurance?! Thank you for your time.
I have alot of teeth breaking off and swollen gums and toothaches...is it better to get all my teeth pulled and get all fasle or just keep going to the dentist for series of procedures? And what would be cheaper?

i Have tiny holes in my gum both sides behind the bridge where my tonsils are and every so often i develop smelly potato like stuff from these holes. i have been told that it is possibly my wisdom teeth but why would bits of smelly crap be emerging from the holes
Hi, well approx four mons ago i had a molar on my bottom left restored. Since then i have been treated for an infection with antibiotics. Then was told i had tmj and was prescribed anti inflammatorys, now according to a specialist the pain in my jaw and neck is associated with strain on the muscles rather then tmj. I have been taking medication to control muscle spasms that are helping, however i am still experiencing significiantly abnormal pain and swelling. I now have a lump on my gum behind my top left molar which is painful and im wondering if i have an abscess. Throughout the last four mons i have been plagued by numerous symptoms.Still cant seem to pinpoint the cause. Is it possible that i have and have had an infection that didnt clear with the anibiotics but rather is lingering causing me pain and grief? Or are there any underlying conditions this sounds to be associated with? Any advice or information you can give me would be appreciated, thanks..April
I had a tooth extracted. The detist had to saw my tooth in half in order to get it out. That was 5 days ago. On the second day of my tooth being removed I noticed I had an extra hole in my mouth. It is located under my tongue beside the site. Is there supposed to be a hole there? Am I still supposed to be in pain?
Dr. Williams, I had four teeth that were filled one and a half weeks ago. My tongue on the left side is still numb but there is also a burning sensation so it is numb but also burning What could have caused this?

i have a Maryland Bridge on my front upper incisor. I need to replace becuase I have had for at least 12 years and i want to whiten. it looks really natural because my smile line is low. my dentist wants to replace with an all porcelan maryland bridge. i have sought 2 opinions and both say an implant will not be aesthetic for my situation. i am thinking of getting my gum enhanced to sit on top of the bridge instead of under as it does now. My question is : Is a Maryland bridge the best way to go or should I consider a crown? I am 52 yrs old. i want it to look like a real tooth. thanks
Hi Doctor, I just got my front four teeth capped. I am currently involved in kickboxing and wanted to know if caps are easy to break if getting hit in the face or would the mouth guard protect my caps? Are caps easy to break? Or are they stronger than your teeth?
I recently had three teeth on top try to abcess. I have porcelain vanneers. I had to be put out for oral surgery so they could remove the infection above these teeth. The gum looks healthy now, but I notice a black ring at the very top, and its causing bad breath. Is this normal??
i have a problem with my teeth. the back molar tooth caused me pain and i have gone to 3 dentists since. the first dentist said that he couldn't pull my tooth because the roots are very deep. i always have problems with getting my tooth pulled because of having deep roots. i am also hard to numb. the second dentist stuck me many times and still couldn't numb me enough. i had been on antibiotics for 10 days before this happened. he told me he would have to put me to sleep. he said come back in i week and continue taking anibiotics. well, 3 days later, my face swelled up on the side where he stuck the needles around and in the tooth. i went to the emergency room at the hospital. the doctor said i had an abcess and he stuck a needle with penicillin and stuck me in the butt with penicillin. meanwhile, 2days later,my face started swelling again but not as bad as the first time.i called the dentist and he gave me a prescription for another anibiotic. the swelling has gone down but my tooth still aches. i don't feel comfortable to be put to sleep in a dentist office. i don't handle anesteshia too well. i was going to get a root canal but i changed my mind on that because i have to pay for everything being done.i have found a dentist who does cosmectic surgery. he wants to pull out the top teeth i have left(which is five)because they are loose. he wants to pull out the back molar also. the question is; can i be put to sleep in a hospital setting? i always have to have something to calm my nerves before any surgery.also, this dentist said he could pull my front teeth and have temporary false teeth put in the same day. i still don't know what to do with my back molar as far as waiting to have it pulled or get it pulled first? also, could i have gotten a bad infection from the needle the dentist used because my face didn't swell until after he stuck me so many times to numb me. he even stuck several times through the tooth itself.
I have a molar on the back right side of my mouth. I had it filled maybe 10 years ago, and the filling has fallen out. I have noticed that the tooth is now broken and in the past three days I have had painful toothaches in that area, that prevent me from biting down of that side or sucking in my cheeks (for spitting when brushing my teeth for example). I currently have no health insurance, but am working on getting another job to get it. I have tried anbesol, and it relieves the pain on the outside of the tooth, but not on the inside. I am worried that this will turn serious before I can afford to fix it. I have also noticed that I have been having constant bad breath because of this, even immediately after brushing my teeth, and sometimes the pain can get so bad that I get headaches on that side of my temples. I am hoping to get to the dentist within the next two weeks, is it terrible to wait that long? Are there any other ways that I can temporarily ease this pain?
I HAVE A A PIECE OF TOOTH CONNECTED TO MY GUM IT REALY HURTS AND IT IS SWOLLEN WHAT SHOULD I DO?
why has my 5year old daughter got 10 bottom teeth and 12 on the top
Good morning- I had a root canal on a tooth that has a crown about 9 mos ago for severe cold sensitivity. The endodontist drilled through the crown rather than remove it. I was happy about that. Everything went very well. I had the temporary filling replaced with the permanent filling by my regular dentist about 2 weeks later. No problems for a couple of mos. Then I began to experience a 'tin foil' zinging sensation. No temp sensitivity etc...but I can elicit the sensation with the touch of a finger to the surrounding tissue. The dentist first ground the molar below the affected tooth, thinking it too high. To no avail. Then we tried antibiotics...again no use. She spoke of an apico, and I am just curious as to what is causing this sensation? My dentist is not really sure, and I know an apico is rare. Any suggestions as to etiology of this 'zinging' sensation? I appreciate your time. Thank you.
I had a bridge on my back right teeth and last year my dentist said he had to remove them. After he removed them I started biting my tongue. I went back to the dentist and he said he needed to replace the 2 crowns beside the bridge he removed. I asked him about a partial and he suggested an implant. My question is, I don't want to keep spending money on my mouth, but I don't want to keep biting my tongue. I cannot afford a lot but I also can't eat on that side of my mouth. I also wear a night guard at night. I have very bad teeth and all of my teeth are crowns except the bottom front 4. I am very upset that I have to have something done to my teeth each time I go for a cleaning. Can you tell me if a partial is okay instead of spending a lot of money on a implant or two. Thank you, Terri P
10 days ago I fell and hit my two front teeth really hard. They were never loose, just very tender, almost like they were bruised. It looks like they may be darkening. Are they dying? What do I need to do?
IS PAIN NORMAL WHILE A WISDOM TOOTH IS GROWING IN OR SHOULD I HAVE THIS PROBLEM CHECKED
My tounge tingles, burning sensation.
My daughter is 22 months and still breastfed. Her top 4 front teeth are badly decayed and deep cavities are in the molars on top and bottom (totalling 8 cavities in all). The pediatric dentist recommended crowns on top 2 molars and filling in bottom 2 molars and capping top 4 front teeth. But, I don't know if she should have them capped if there is a risk of abcess...would pulling the 4 top impact her speech? She only uses the bottom teeth to eat and I'd like her to have some top teeth to improve her appetite, but not at the expense of her health. The little teeth on the sides of the 2 front are broken off and so small that they barely come below the gums and the right front tooth is so black and broken off that it doesn't seem to be worth saving. The left front big tooth is starting to chip/crack now. Would it be a good decision to only cap the one big left front and pull the other 3? What would you recommend?
I have inside my mouth, what feels like lumps in my lower jaw below my teeth. One on each side. They are hard and one side is bigger than the other. Is this normal? Or should I get it checked out. Thank you
Why does my 3yr old grind her teeth? What can I do to stop her? Is it hurting her teeth or gums in anyway?
What are the materials used in and heath concerns elated to composite resin fillings? Also, what is the best way to remove old alloy fillings so that heavy metals are not injested? thanks
My four year old son just noticed a hard bump on the roof of his mouth he said it doesnt hurt. It feels weird to the touch what could it be???
Hello, I am a 23 yr old female with beautiful teeth from the front but embarrassed to open my mouth. I have always had very sensitive teeth that will break easily. My mom was the same way. A couple years ago a couple of my cavities fell out and we never had the money to go back and get them fixed. I know have my bottom back 3 teeth gone. They began to chip and break so much that i started pulling them out myself. They are all broken off at the gumline now and i do not know what to do. I just kept putting it off because of money and because i was so embarrassed to even go to the dentist. I have been sick for a few years now and i think the stress has made my teeth worse. Please give me some advice on what to do. Could this be why i have been sick for so long now? Is there an affordable way to go about this? I am open to any suggestion. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
I had a root canal done in 2004 when I was in basic training for the military. My filling came out from the root canal. Should I need to go to the dentist right away? I have no pain since there is no nerve. The filling looked like cotton but it had an odd oder to it. The hole is huge and I can see clear down to my gums. Please help? Thanks.
i have a big hole in my back upper tooth and i am 20 weeks preg right now. i have been taking oral gel for the pain. that numbs it. is that ok for the baby?
My son is going to be 15 soon and has a front tooth that has come in side ways, what can be done, besides braces to fix it so he can have staight teeth?
I just had a filling done 3 days ago and my cheek is still sore from where the local was injected. Is it possible that there is some kind of bruising or something that would be taking it longer to heal?
I was wondering, I can't really handle the novocaine and one of my teeth had a huge hole in it with decay, my dentist did not feel comfortable using the Waterlase for this procedure but I begged and pleaded, he did it for me, and it was fine, and when he was done he said he has never used the Waterlase on a cavity so large before. He told me he was prepping my tooth for a crown, he told me I would have to get numb for a crown, and I don't feel comfortable with that. So my question is , do I really have to be numb? If so, please explain why the Waterlase won't work. Thank you, BRY
What is a hot tooth? I have a cracked and infected tooth and was told that i Wouldnt be able to have anasthetic for it today because its a hot tooth.
Can I get lockjaw from a broken tooth?
my 12 yr old daughter's teeth are starting to turn dark yellow to orange color was wondering what could cause that she goes to the demntist regularly and brushes 3 times a day.
Hi i recently noticed i have a few cracked teeth as i can see the lines down my teeth, but only one hurts and its my bottom front tooth, it hurts when i bite down on it but dissappears when i stop, i also have brown staining between some of my teeth, and a slight chip on one. im getting a dentists appointment very soon, but the tooth that hurts, the crack goes from the top of the tooth to the gum, so what would the dentist do? its extraction what worrys me! or would he put a crown on or something, Thanks
MY TWO YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER IS GRINDING HER TEETH NIGHT OR DAY IS THERE A PATICULAR REASON FOR THIS AND IS IT HARMFUL?
I had a cleaning done on the left side about 3 months ago on the top and bottom teeth. I has freezing for this. She gave me about 8 needles for freezing. My face on the left side has been extremely sore ever since. The pain is the entire side of my face from my nose to my ear and from my eye to my chin. My face goes from numb to extremely painful to numb again. What could be causing this?
I have noticed a small tender spot on the front part of the roof of my mouth...its is brown colored(not dark) and I feel no pain at the moment. I have noticed it for nearly a week now and I am worried that it could be a cancerous growth or some other serious health problem. I am 27 years old and I used to smoke and drink heavily when I was a teen but I havent smoked in nearly 5 years and I only drink on a social basis. Do I need to see a Doctor or is this something treatable at the house?

I am afraid to take so much meds while im pregnant but i have never felt pain like this i cant rest. Did I need antibiotic for abcess. do you think the shot hit a nerve? I get a sharp pain in my lower tooth 3rd from back for just a couple of seconds when hot coffee hits it, the tooth had a crown put on it about 1 1/2 years ago. My Dentist wants to do a root canal on it.
I had a root canal and crown on a back lower molar. A month later I started having pain at that tooth, but thought the nerve "dead" since the root canal. To make a long story short my dentist said sometimes root canals don't work and he is redoing it. He drilled thru the crown for the first visit and placed a temp filling over it and sent me home on antibiotics. I am currently on the 5th round of antibiotics since the pain has not ceased. It gets better but never goes away. He obviously won't go further till the infection is gone. I have had two rounds of amoxicillin and on my 3rd of Leviquan. Could there be something else going on....I can take the pain for the most part, but them it becomes very distracting. Could the temp filling be pressing on a nerve? I have never had this much trouble clearing up an infection. Thanks
I recently had my four upper front teeth pulled. I have a dental flipper right now and I hate the way I look. I look like I have a sunk in lip. I look old. I hate it. I am suppose to be getting a partail denture to replace the flipper. I was just wondering does a partial denture look diffrent from the flipper or will it pretty much look the same? Will it fit the same? I feel like I can't chew, and I can move the flipper with my tongue...I hate it.Also how long do I have to wear a flipper before I can have my partail denture.Thanx
I have developed cavities under 3 prior silver fillings, my dentist did not do xrays...you can see the dark spots, anyways he wants to remove the silver fillings & do porcelin onlays on 2 of them. He said I would need temporaries for 2 weeks while the mold of the porcelin is made. Is this a good idea? Is there anything else I can do?
I have a 1 yr old son and his top 2 teeth are yellow. ia this normal and also the other ones coming in beside them are a little yellow also, what causes this and how can i get it to go away, he also has a vertical chip in the front right tooth what causes this and what can i do about it.
My tooth chipped while I was having them cleaned. I know I shouldn't have to pay to have this fixed, but should my insurance company?
Im 53, male. Had a crooked wisdom tooth pulled 2 months ago. He broke the tooth in front of it in half in the process and knocked out the filling. Now I have 3 points of bone sticking out of my gum area and scratching my tongue. I went in today for my last cleaning and he took his drill and drilled through my gum (in 3 places) and said he ground down the bone fragments? How is this possible since they were not attached to anything? Seems to me he just chased them around inside my gums and they will still try to come out. All in all, i'm NOT impressed with this whole process, but also will say this is my first extraction. Is this normal? Will the remaining pieces try to come out again? or are they somehow gone?
My sister-in-law is currently undergoing kemo and radiation for colon/rectal cancer and is losing an awful lot of weight. Long before the cancer, her teeth have been rotting in her mouth and she refused to go to the dentist. Now, she says everything tastes like cardboard. Could the condition of her teeth be part of the issue? Will kemo and radiation speed the deteriorating condition? We are very concerned and would appreciate any advice you may have.

Every time I have dental work done with novacaine I have face pain for weeks after. The pain is so intense that I feel like I am having a stroke. The side of my face that had the work on it hurts really bad and I have some tingling in it. It hurts to talk or eat.
Hi, i had one tooth then i saw that another tooth was growing next to it. The new tooth and the old tooth are growing sideways. the od tooth is moving and it pushed all the way to the bottom of my mouth and it cannot move anymore, it also pulled my gum down. What should I do?
I am 15 weeks pregnant. I chipped a wisdom tooth and want to get it fixed, but I'm terrified of the dentist. Is sedation dentistry safe in pregnancy?
My 8 yr. old daughter has all of her permanent teeth (she had lost almost all of her primaries by age 5-6) and they are coming in very crooked. It is hard for her to chew. She currently has some back molars protruding and also had an ice skating accident over 2 months ago in which she fell forward on her jaw and her bottom teeth cut into her inside upper lip. She had xrays and they did not see fractures or cracks any where including the teeth. However, she still complains often (almost daily) that her teeth hurt or feel loose. We see no signs of this nor darkening of any teeth and wonder if the molars coming in can push on other teeth and make them hurt or if we should get her checked again. We were told yrs. ago already that she would need orthodontics at a very early age as well. We have state dental insurance though we pay out of pocket for all of it because no dentists will accept the coverage in the whole northern half of the state (Wisconsin)or for only those under 5 yrs. Thanks for your assistance
hi i went to the dentist during my spring break from school so i wouldn't have to miss any days.so i went and he pulled the tooth and said the pain should stop by the next day. 3 days later the pain was worse than before so he called me in an antibiotic that was stronger and said to call the next day if it still hurt so i did. he told me to come to his office and he would look at ithe said i had a dry socket . so he packed it and said that would help with the pain and i needed to come back the next day to get it repacked. when i did i was in even more pain than before and asked for pain medication he told me the only way to get pain meds was to let him pull another tooth. so i told him if that was what i had to do i couldn't be in more pain than i already was. so while he is numbing me he breaks a 27 gauge needle in my upper jaw now i have had to have a catscan and will probably need surgery. As a dentist do you beleive he should be financially responsible? it has now been 2 weeks since the first tooth was pulled and i am still in excrussiating pain. i still can't eat solid foods because i can barely open my mouth.
DR. Doyle, im 29 weeks pregnant, im very imberassed to admit this but i havent been to the dentist for a long while and i have two front top teeth that are badly chipped (on is half a tooth and the other is a little less then half) from a car accident. my question is would it be safe to get it taken care of before i give birth...before my hubby returns from iraq? and if so can you breif me on what i could get done for a chipped tooth?
Is it absolutly necessary to replace a missing tooth with an implant or bridge? What harm, if any, is to my health?
My daughter is 21 years old and has 4 wisdom teeth that were painful a year or two ago, but are not causing any pain now. Her dentist just told her that she has several cavities in the wisdom teeth. Should she get them filled or have the widsom teeth removed???
I went to the dentist about 3 weeks ago to have two teeth looked at. He said I had an infection in the bone and gave me antibiotics, now I have an absess by the tooth and he gave me different antibiotics, but the absess is not going away. I am schduled with a oral surgern to have my two teeth extracted, will he be able to pull them even though the antibiotics isn't getting rid of the absess?
Hi, i have an overbite, ive been to the dentist and they have said to go to a orthodontist, i did and i also have TMJ i think its called (lockjaw) and im woundering if i can get braces to fix the overbite? thank you so much!!!
Hello! I am 9 weeks pregnant and my wisdom teeth are really bothering me. My jaw is very sore and my gum is swollen and sensitive where the wisdom tooth is coming out. Will this last long? I can't use any medication for the pain!
A few weeks ago, I began to experience a dull pain above my two front teeth. My right front tooth was knocked out in a car accident 27 years ago and was replaced with a crown after undergoing a root canal. Is it possible that I'm having a problem from that root canal after all these years? I floss daily and haven't had any other problems with that dental work.
My son is 6 years old. I just noticed 2 new teeth are growing behind his 2 old bottom front teeth. But here's the catch, non of his teeth are loose! What will happen? I have a scheduled dentist appointment for him tomorrow, but I'm so nervous to hear the word "braces" pop up. What can I do? He doesn't seem to be in any pain, but I fear that all his teeth will some how become uneven. Will he have to wear braces in the future or can something be done so that won't even have to happen?
my daughter is two and her two front teeth have broken down and they are discolor and i just notice that she has a white spot on her gum just above the tooth do i need to take her now to the doctor for infection ..help please i want her to be healthy..
I think my large silvery filling is cracked, the tooth was very sensitive to hot/cold and now there is pain that throbs in the area on and off. My dentist is out until 4/2/07 and if I can stand the pain I'd wait for him because he always goes out of his way to save the tooth. This filling is many years old. Will I do irreversible harm by waiting until April 2nd?
My 6 year old daughter lost her eye tooth about a month ago. The adult tooth has yet to come in, which is not too concerning for me, but the gum looks bruised or blackened where the tooth should be, is this cause for alarm? Thanks in advance, Kim Weihs
My husband's dentist wants to perform 7 fillings and three wisdom teeth extractions in one two-hour appointment. Can this been safely completed without complications within this time frame?
Dose DentaQuest cover tooth implants?
Are braces medically necessary and if not when are they consider to be medically necessary?
I have a severe absess around a bottom molar..(broke off at gum line 5yrs ago, never bothered me until 2 weeks ago)i was prescribed ciprofloxacin which did not help..now on penicillin 500mg.which seems to be helping.loritab 5/500 for pain.i have noticed that i can not open my mouth no bigger then an inch or so,and it hurts to swollow.any advice??? i think it is slowly draining because there is a slimy yucky stinky tatse every now and then..but the lump does not seem to be going down.. what can i do????
i asked you a quetion about a bump on the top right of my mouth.. well i noticed theres one on the other side that right across from it.. i think there suppose to be there, but ones bigger then the other.. what are these? and why is one sore and bigger?
I went for a root canal today that was to only take one visit. The endodontist instead filled my tooth with medicine and put me on antibiotics to clear the infection. He said when I come back in two weeks it may be necessary to cut through my gum to get at the infected tissue if the antibiotics have not worked. My question is, what are the chances that the medicine in the tooth and the antibiotics will work? I'm scared of the gum surgery.
I am currently 6 1/2 weeks pregnant, and I just recieved treatment for a small chip in my veneer (front tooth). I am concerned now since they used an ultra violet ray to seal it ( only 45 seconds at that) I am worried I have hurt my baby, since I did not mention I was pregnant (big mistake). Thank you for your help!
im 25 and none of my wisdom teeth came in, i think my top right one is.. i have a bump and pain when i press on it, the bump is where the wisdom tooth should be coming in but its to the side on the gum facing the hard palate.. is that bump the wisdom tooth?
can brushing to hard make the little black spots in the grooves of the teeth appear like ther cavities?
My daughter's 2 bottom front teeth are wiggling for more than a month now and the new teeths are out already right behind the old ones. They won't come out on there own. What could happen if those teeth aren't taken out soon?
I just broke my front tooth, its sunday and there are no dentists open. Can I use the Temporary filling stuff until I can get to the dentist tomorrow?
my dentist saw a small pea-sized growth deep under tooth #31 today in the xray. she said it has grown a little bit in the last 6 months. she is sending me to an oral surgeon. any advice or any idea what this may be?
Sir,There is yellow stain on my teeth because of medicine Tetracycline. Is there any treatment for this condition? Thank you very much.
hi. i saw a similar question for a 7 year old, but, wanted to be sure ours is not a different case. our 9 year old daughter had to get her 2 front teeth pulled out about 8 months ago, and there is still no sign of them coming in. they were not even loose when they were pulled, but, we agreed with the dentist that it was time for them to go. we will not have any insurance until January and were wondering if we should take her to an orthidontist for surgery or just wait and hope they will show up. thank you for your help... we really appreciate that you answer questions like this.
the lower part of my bottom teeth have been chipping and rotting away in the area by my gums. this has taken place mostly on my two front bottom teeth. i am wondering what this might be called?i would like some information on this, and would like to know what procedures can be taken to make my teeth look good. by the way my teeth do not hurt and i did not get to clean my teeth in a while
I had a crown that was put on several years ago. When the dentist fitted the crown in my mouth - it did not fit right, so she filled the bottom part of it with a filling. When that filling part fell out - I went to my new dentist and she took off the crown and told me the tooth needed to be surgically extracted and then told me I needed a bridge. She prepared the two teeth beside the one that was to be extracted for the bridge (putting a temp crown on them). When the oral surgeon extracted the tooth - the other tooth two teeth with the temp crowns had become loose and the one actually cracked off. I began to feel pain in these two teeth and even having air touch them - caused me severe pain. I went to see my regular dentist and she put the permanent bridge on. Now, I am still having pain in those two teeth. My dentist had to totally numb me to even get the bridge on because of the pain. Why am I still having pain? Is this normal? Please advise. Thank you!
Hi my name is Candice.I am 21 years old. I have had a bad cavity for about a for about year in a half .By now I guess the root is dead ,and the pain has been long gone. I have negelted to get care for it since it no longer hurts (NO INSURENCE).Over the last year and a half i have aptempted to get help for it several times.I was put on i don't even know how many perscriptions for penicillin an amoxicillin .I also went to have it pulled out befor at the dental school but this aptempt was fruitless.the dentis in training tried to pull my already pain riden tooth befor I was all the way numb and as you can quess I did not stick around for the pain and leaped out the chair. I now have a big deep hole in my tooth .My question to you is if this problem countinues to go uncared for can it cause me any other health problems that aer not tooth related?
my 5 year old son was eating corn, and his front milk tooth fell off. i had him rinse his mouth with water, and i noticed another tooth that is already out behind that tooth that fell off. is this common? is it a problem? or will the tooth move forward into place?
My son is turning 6 and has an absess which appeared 2 days ago, I brought him into the dentist today and she perscribed antibiotics then quickly looked at the absess. She told me they will pull his tooth (which looks fine) the next visit. I then asked the dentist why would you pull it and she told me they always have to pull a childs tooth when they have an absess. She then told me she would take an x-ray too. Is this so? The tooth appears to be fine and it is his molar tooth.
I have a missing molar for 10 years (approxmimately). the tooth next to it has a receeding gumline. I think it is from chewing, and rubbing, etc. It on the cheeck side. Can this be taken care of? The root of the tooth is showing. What can they do? Doesn't hurt yet. can it be saved or am I going to lose another tooth?
My husband noticed a big bump on his tongue he says he feels a ball in there. Could that be cancer or what is it? He is 30 years old. Thank you
my daughter is 5 years old and I took her to the dentist yesterday and he said she had an abcess tooth and needed it pulled and needed a spacer and a crown on the toothe in front of it.....is this all necessary? He gave her amoxicillin for the infection.....my main concern is having her put out for the procedure....she is very small and it really scares me!
IN Oct. 2005 I had a root canal on tooth #31. I have had constant pain, hot and cold, and pressure problems. I was recently visiting in another state and the pain was so severe that I went to a dental clinic. The dentist there told me I had two options. Pull the tooth or take antibiotic and pain Rx and when I returned home have an endodontist look at it. I returned home, went to the endo. at 10:00 a.m. He drilled a hole in my crown and drained the root because I had an infection. He said it was the size of a marble and in my jawbone. The pain was worse at 4:00 p.m. I returned to the endo that same day. He removed my crown, and again drained the tooth. He stated it was just a bad situation. That was Mon. It is now Fri. a.m. and I am still in pain. He told me to call him in the am and he would have an oral surgeon on standby. Do I want this tooth pulled? I have always heard it is best to save your teeth, especially the molars. What do you think, should I pull this tooth, and if so, then what do they do to fix the empty space that will be there? Thank you. Still hurting.
The back part of my front bottom tooth has chipped off (not the whole lot just the top) is this something I need to see the dentist about of will it be ok, Im not in any pain.
I just recently had an absess tooth pulled and was wondering what to do now to keep the hole clean and preventing it from getting infected again!
I was wondering the name of the professional that makes the veneers, crowns and bridges... thanks
I had my i tooth pulled on friday and it really in alot of pain. When will the pain stopI have been taking alieve alot but the pain comes back.
I have porcelain veneer crown put on 8 of my upper teeth. Since then, I have had 2 root canals and and may need a third. Can you tell me why this is happening to me? Is it possible that the crowns did not seal correctly? Anything you can advise would be appreciated. Thank you. MT
On my hard palate the ridges, the first six are white? Before I noticed the ridges were white the flat part behind my front top teeth, between the ridges was swollen. If I touch it with my tongue and when I eat it bothers me. Will it go away?????
My 13 year old son had his two front teeth fractured at school during PE and he had a root canal on both of them the same day of the injurey, we have to go back to the dentist seven days after the root cacanls. My guestion is, is my son going to loss his front teeth, because by the fifth day we started to see some gray at the top of the teeth? This is so upsetting!
My daughter in law has veneers on her two front upper teeth. The Veneer is cracking, so the dentist said she should have crowns instead. I always thought it was better not to destroy good healthy teeth. Her insurance will pay for the crowns so she is not asking any questions. Are crowns better for front teeth, than veneers
MY DAUGHTER RECENTLY VISISTED THE DENTIST AND SHE SUGGESTED MY DAUGHTER NEEDED TWO CROWNS. SHE IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD. IS THAT AN APPROPIATE AGE TO HAVE CROWNS PLACED IN HER MOUTH WHEN HER BABY TEETH WILL COME OUT ANYWAY?
Age 45, had a very old molar filling replaced as it had cracked. The new composite was used and it didn't take; I was experiencing pain and discomfort. I contacted my dentist who informed me at that time that the current school is using the new materials and that they are not always accepted by all patients. At any rate, the filling was redone using the more traditional amalgam (sp?) Twelve weeks in--TEMPERATURE SENSITIVITY but not pressure sensitivity. Did he fail to properly replace the filling? The tooth is a lower molar Thank you
My front teeth usually hurts. I'll be fine one day then when i wake up the next, it feels sore. When i touch it, it hurts and it's hard to bite down or put any pressure on it. What is the cause? Is it possibly because my wisdom teeth are growing and it's pushing all the other teeth together? Will me teeth be cricket?
what does it mean when the bottom of your gums looked bruised
I am 20 weeks pregnant.I am having a very bad toothache. The pain is becomming unbareable. It is a filing, which i had done a long time ago.I had a toothache in the same tooth and it went away but i am having it again and it also looks like the tooth is rotton underneath my filling. I was wondering can i have the tooth removed while i'm pregnant or should i hold off and wait until i have my baby????
I have caps on 2 teeth. #10 & #9 due to a car accident 15 years ago. These 2 teeth have caps that are one piece. My daughter bumped my mouth & tooth #9 was damaged. I had to go to the oral surgeon & have the root/tooth removed. Now there is no way to attach a cap. Right now I am still wearing my cap since tooth #10 is holding it. I know this can't stay like this & that I might damage tooth #10, but I am waiting for my mouth to heal so I can get an implant or bridge. My question is can I get a Mayland Bridge if I have one good front tooth & tooth #10 is a cap? Or do you have to have 2 good teeth, one on each side? I would love an implant, but due to the cost & time involved (since it's a front tooth) I don't think I can do it. Can I get a Maryland Bridge or would you suggest getting a permanent bridge? I would just hate to have to grind down a good tooth.
Can you use a Maryland Bridge to replace 2 missing teeth or is just for one?
My gums have been bleeding for a few weeks now. My friend advised to start brushing the gums (she had the same problem a few years ago), and, although most of the bleeding has gone away, there is now a small (painless) hold above my front tooth and the gum around it is swollen... I have no dental insurance (just changed jobs), and the quotes I've gotten on just seeing the dentist have been WAY out of my price range... what can I do???
My husband had a root cunaul done about 6 months ago. He had a temp filling in and half of his tooth and it fell out! Now his cheek and gums are really swollen. And he is in so much pain! It is so bad it make him cry!
What is the general price for a partial denture (called a flipper) for one tooth #10 in the front. Can it be used to add other teeth and how long do they last?
My 1 year old son's front tooth just broke through and it has a yellow spot on it. I brush his teeth everyday and I just noticed this. What could have caused this and will it go away as the whole tooth comes down?
My 5 year old lost his front tooth recently. (I think too early) The new tooth appearing is malformed - we had x-rays done and it looks like a raindrop rather than a tooth. What could have caused this and should we be concerned? As far as we can tell he doesn't have any other medical or dental problems.
hi doctor, i got a root canal about five years ago, and about two years ago the filling came out. I never went to get it fixed because it wasnt bother me, but now, My gums or maybe its tissue has now come up threw the hole and it rising above the tooth, it does not hurt but it is annoying. Also I am four months pregnant and Im worried about getting an xray. Can I get that fixed while pregnant? And if so, will they have to cut the tissue out?
My 6 yr old daughter has 3 cavities and we have attempted 6 times to have them filled with a pediatric dentist that used a gel to make her tooth "sleepy". Each trip was a disaster and we were not successful. Her anxiety is so severe that we were told she would need general anethesia. However, we cannot afford the $6,000 we were quoted. My question - Will Versted medication be effective? Will the sedation be enough to relax her enough to get these cavities filled?
I have a small chip on an otherwise fine bridge. My dentist told me the entire bridge is going to have to be redone. Is this my only option? Can't some local bonding/veneering be done instead?
Hi my 21month old daughter fell and chipped her front tooth yesterday. Is there anyway it can be fixed by a dentist? Everyone is telling me that it's going to fall out when she is about 6 or seven years old, but I don't want her to have a chipped front tooth until her second set comes in. Is she to young to get it fixed? and if it can be fixed what will be done?
I'm 30 yrs old and have always had very healthy teeth (only 1 cavity in childhood). This morning I noticed a dull aching in my left lower gum line after I ate. I started thinking "toothache" because it was unfamiliar. But none of my teeth hurt with pressure and I don't see anything unusual. It's more of a pain that extends along the gumline of the back 3 teeth. Why would I have this spontaneous soreness?
My 6 year old lost her top front tooth a week ago and a long pink fleshy piece (looks like a root where her baby tooth was) is hanging down. My husband says it is the root and it will dissolve. Could it really be the root?
my son is 5 1/2 years old .he has an abcess tooth on a toothwhitch has a filling in it .our dentist prescribed antibiotics and said if that doesnt clear it up to get tooth pulled . is this the best thing to do and if so will this cause spacing problems for his permanent teeth
I have always wondered about this. There is plenty and many varieties of health insurance. But when it comes to dental insurance you can't find any. Most plans are not insurance but only discount plans or "coverage" but the word "insurance" is not used. Any idea why this is?
Last week I lost a filling while biting into a hard piece of dark chocolate. I believe it is tooth #19. I don't think there was a side on this tooth when this happened just an amalgam filling that the dentist who placed it 10 years ago made a faux side with the amalgam. I know a crown is the best way to deal with this tooth but I cannot afford it and in addition I have a phobia of getting my teeth drilled. Can the filling usually be replaced without any drilling? And I read somewhere on this site that you suggested bonding for larger fillings? Is that only for composite fillings? And if so could I get a composite filling or is amalgam my only choice if I dont want an inlay or crown? Thanks, Diane
hi doc im jen i am 7 weeks preg and i have a rotten decayed painful tooth im afraid to get it pulled but im in so much pain how do i no if theres a absess
My 2 year old daughter just got a metal(silver)crown put on her right front tooth.I really want it to be natural looking or atleast come close, but the dentist tell me they can't do anything now that it's been put in. Is there anything I can do?
I just had a cavity filled on my back right wisdom tooth about 2 weeks and I still have pain on it like its on a nerve. Is this common cuase it seems to happend everytime I get one filled
I need a permanent crown for the implant installed by my periodontist. Do I need a specialist, or, will a general dentist be sufficient for this purpose?
I had two upper teeth and two lower teeth extracted by my orthodontist while I had braces on. I still have them on, but I am unhappy because my jaw has started hurting and feels like it goes back too far. My bottom lip is sunk in and my top lip comes out too far now. I want my mouth to be broader like it was. Can something be done to correct this. Why couldn't some other measure be taken instead of extractions to make room for crowded teeth.
im 38 weekks pregeant and i lost a filling...Im not in any pain but is novacaine safe to take or should i wait tell after i have the baby sense im not in any pain. thank you Ashley
are my molers permanent or are u supposed to lose them?
3 years ago I had a implant. However the implant somehow failed and I now Have a bridge. But Part of my gum is now missing because of the implant and the bridge doesn't hide this. I hate the way it looks, and I sing so the way my teeth look really matters to me. is there anyway to fix this disaster?
I have a hard, bony, round, white colored swelling on my right upper gum above the molar on the inner side. It has been there for almost two years now. I showed it to a dentist as I am a heavy smoker and was worried about cancer but he just disregarded it. That was a year ago. On some days it feels less swollen when I rub my tongue over it, but of late I am feeling a pressure sensation all the way up my right nostril and sometimes above my right eye. What could this possibly be? It worries me a lot and on some days I get obsessive about it. Is this possibly cancer?
I had a filling done on my back tooth, on top 10 days ago. An hour after, I started getting a pain in the two teeth in front of it that felt like an electric shock. It was every few minutes and extremely painful. The dentist said it was referred pain. Since then I still get the pain in the same two teeth 2-4 times a day. It feels like they are being shocked. There is no sensitivity to the tooth that was worked on and they did x-rays today and everything looks normal. One of the teeth that hurts had a root canal done last year and my wisdom tooth is coming through behind the tooth that had the filling so I don't know if the nerve was enflamed and isn't healing because of the pressure. I don't know what to do!
can you perform a whitening procedure (like zoom) on porcelain crowns?
i'm on gum treatment for periodontis, can i still put brace on?
I have a lump in the way back of my mouth on the gum. It bleeds very easily, (kind of a lot of blood) every time I brush. It just started a couple days a ago. What is this?
My 2 year rarely lets me brush her teeth unless with force I now have noticed light brown spot and chipping on some of her teeth should I make a dental appointment she is terrified of doctors please help
Dr. Williams, I had a bridge put on my lower teeth last week. It is 28, 29 and 30. Anyway, I was missing #29. Anyway, when I had the temp on it for 3 weeks, I was in lots of pain. My dentist said my bite had to be adjusted and that it was too high. The pain was in my lower and upper right side of my mouth and it hurt so bad I could not sleep and the pain radiated to my ear at times. Monday, I got my permanant bridge on and he said the xrays prove no need for root canals or anything. He said the pain will subside in a week or two. It is still painful and it is mainly in my upper mouth above the bridge where I had no work done. It is even sensitive to hot. I am upset because I keep telling my dentist I am in pain and he said it is related to me needing to get used to the bridge. Is this true? Do I need to wait longer to see if the pain subsides? I am a teacher and I can't be in pain all the time while trying to be happy with the kids. Nor can I take off work. Plus, my husband and I are trying to conceive and I don't know how safe it is to have dental work while trying to conceive or become pregnant. Thank you for your time.

Can anasthetic be dangerous to fetis???
What causes a hot tooth? How do you know if you have a hot tooth in the first place? If you have a hot tooth is their any way to save the tooth? Will antibioticts take care of it? Or is the best thing to do is to just have it taken out?
In December of 2006 I had a dental implant placed in the upper left side of my mouth. The Dr used two mini titanium implants in the space. It went well, but a day later my cheek on that side was tight. Later that month it started to bleed; hurt and it had an unpleasant order from the site (during this time my cheek still feels tight and almost numb). The following month Jan 07 I went back to have the permanent crown put on. Before he did this I expressed my concerns about the problem. He acknowledged the fact that there was bleeding and redness and told me no infection I probably shifted the temporary cap he put on when I ate. He permanently crowned the implant along with a root canal behind the implant site together. Since then it hurts and bleeds whenever I floss. My cheek feels tight and jaw on that side hurts as well. I ask the dr. about it and he couldn’t give me a clear answer. I transferred to another dental office and received a cleaning and examination they saw nothing to the extreme to remove it however it still hurts and bleeds, there is also a dark ring above the implant site. Is this a sign of the implant failing and should I remove it
I had bonding work done on my teeth about 7 years ago to close the gap between my two front teeth. Now there is a yellow stain on my tooth were the bonding was done. Can the bonding work be redone to remove the stain. Please let me know, because I don't like how it looks. Thank-You!
hi a couple of weeks ago I had a tooth worked on and my dentist gave me a shot in my cheek..it has been black and blue..why do you think this would happen and how to I prevent it from happening again...thanks
hello doc hoping i can get some reassurance from you i have two fillings in my whole mouth one bottom right wisdom tooth which is halfway through and according to my own dentist is coming through straight not impacted left bottom wisdom is impacted and has not come through visited four dentists recently with swelling of bottom right gum, mouth ulcer on gum by wisdom, facial swelling a bit, right ear symptons, feeling a bit off balance, not true vertigo, referred pain on back of skull, pain when moving facial muscles around that wisdom tooth, I have been referred to an Oral Consultant which I am waiting an appointment but cannot believe my own dentist left me with these quite horrendous symptons they just said that no infection was showing around this tooth, is this normal to feel quite ill when your wisdom tooth is coming through or is this signs it needs to come out. I am 35 years old and have had very little dental work many thanks oh by the way my last OPG was seven years ago dont understand my dentist saying right one is not impacted almost to say you will get no problems from this

I am a 35 year old women who has suffered a lot of medical problems for the past 12 years. I am terrified of the dentists so I am not the greatest with going. My jaw has locked closed on me after dental work on 3 different occasions. I have just recently found out that I have 50% bone loss in my upper jaw. In the past 6 months one of my front teeth have pushed forward. I am now being told that I need gum surgery and even after the surgery that top tooth will not be able to be pushed back into position. I have always had pretty straight teeth and now I feel like there is no hope. The peridontist said that after the surgery my teeth will probly move even more and that front tooth may protrude even further. What options do I have. I don't want to wear dentures at 35 years old. Is there any hope for me and keeping my smile looking like my smile? If I have to would implants work for me? Or am I just doomed to dentures? I am also frustrated at the cost of all this, I have dental insurance and my share of cost is almost $4,000. My money is very limited and I feel like there is just no hope for my situation. One last question, I have seen a couple of dentist about 3 years ago. Why would they not tell me of this problem? Maybe if they would have told me I could have got help before it go to this point. The peridonist said this problem start about 10 years ago, which is how long it would have taken to get to 50% of bone loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you, kerry
I recently took my 2 1/2 year old daughter to her first dentist appointment. I was so sure that she had perfect teeth, we brush every day, they look great. To my shock, he told me that she had some cavities between her front teeth that were caused by not flossing. He recommended putting those ugly silver caps on her front teeth! I wanted to cry. What should I do, I don't want to put those silver caps on her teeth. Are there any other options for me? Thank you so much.
My teeth feel like they've been hurting for the past two years. I f one hurts then it feels like they all hurt and throb. I've had root canals on three of my teeth and three of my back teeth pulled already. My upper back teeth hurt so bad that I can't eat because it makes them start hurting. I just had a root canal the other day and it's still throbbing, too. Is there some kind of disease that I could have or infection that is causin all of my teeth to disinegrate and break apart because I'm to the point that I can't take having a toothache anymore.

i recently went to the dentist because i have little black spots in the grooves of a couple of my teeth and there alittle sensitive, but he says there not cavites there just tiny stains. if they weren't cavities would they be sensitive? and now i go in a couple of days so that he can put sealants on my teeth r they really cavities? i don't have dental insurance either.
I just found out I have to have a tooth extracted. I suffer from panic and anxiety and have a fast heart rate. What is the safest numbing they can give me that won't raise my heart rate. I am already trying to talk myself out of going due to some of the research I have done, and I really need to get it done as I have been suffering for months and have had two infections already. Please HELP. Thanks so much.
I was told by my dentist a year or so ago that the I'm brushing my teeth too hard. I'm basically brushing away the gums. Its very obivous to me now what he was talking about. My top teeth are severly exposed - they are stained and I can feel a ridge where the gum used to be. On the first molar on the right side I can feel where the "tooth" part ends.I don't have dental insurance at the present time and am experiencing no pain or sensitivity at all. I was wondering what is involved with fixing that problem? Will I need to have surgery? It seems that veneers or crowns wouldn't be the answer unless there is something that would replace the missing gum tissue ?
A small sliver of the bottom of my tooth fell out. It is located in front and connected to my gums. Its was only a small sliver, but I can feel with my tongue that a piece is mising. How bad is this?

A couple of days ago, I woke up that morning feeling like I had been clenching my teeth all night. That is not something I normally do. It has all of a sudden progressed into pain in my right temple when I bite down. It is not a particular tooth, just when I bite down. I don't know whether to visit a dentist or my regular family physician. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?
My grandsonis four years old. When should we take him to the dentist?
My back lower molar is sore, as well as my jaw and in front of my ear. I have tmj. A few a days ago I noticed a sore bump directly behind the last molar on the top of the gum. It looks sore, red around the sore and white on the top. Nothing is coming out the sore.
My son started to wear metal pallet extender and headgear to correct an overbite 6 months ago. The gums of his two bottom teeth are now so recessed that we can see his roots. What is the connection between the metal in the mouth, in particular, and the recessed gums? His check-up prior to orthodontic treatment was excellent-- no signs of gum problems including gingivitis. He brushes 2X day, flosses once and we help him with his brushing (though he is 10). We feel that we may have solved one problem in terms of his orthodontic care, now we have to solve another through a periodontist! We are strongly considering stopping the orthodontic treatment all together.
I'm 24 week pregnant and three of my wisdom teeth are coming out. I can't stand the pain. Can i get them pulled out while I'm pregnant or should I wait? If so what can I take to relive the pain.
I have a big fear of dentist and with axiety, it makes it even worse. I'm 27 and I have major dental problems. First off I have real bad swollen gums. They bleed and hurt real bad. I've noticed here lately some of my teeth in the back feel like they are coming loose. I also have a few broken teeth in the back and to try and smile with crooked teeth it's so embarrassing. I'm not sure if without getting my teeth pulled that theres anything to save my teeth. And wasn't even sure they would pull my teeth. I know I need to get dental work, but is there anything else you recommend?
6 year old girl is having pain with her incoming six year molar. What do you recommend to give her for some relief?
I just had a root canal and my teeth still hurts for about a week,
I had a tooth that was dead, and it broke off under the gum line. I have since seen a dentist(I think he is a quack). He told me not to worry about the roots still being in there. Can this possibly be right? What happens if the roots are left in? I have no pain eithr.
I had a molar pulled 48 hours ago, I am still in a great deal of pain and the whole has white stuff in it. Is this normal, and even with this white stuff, can I still get a dry socket?
More than 8 years ago I had a bottom rear tooth that had cracked. My dentist filled it with a silver filling to close the crack. Now the gum(front only) is turning yellow and it hurts when I chew on that tooth. What may be the problem,
I went to the dentist a few days ago. I had my filling replaced with a permanent filling. About two days later my tooth has been separated from the gum around my tooth. The area around the tooth is very swollen. It is very painful. What shoud I do?
Hi, My orthodontist told me that i need to have the muscle on the roof of my mouth cut open and then stitched back up, so that my teeth stop seperating so much. Can you tell me what this procedure is called and where i can get some information about it? Thanks.
About a day ago, I was yawning and I heard a fairly loud click, and the right side of my jaw popped IN. ( not out )It did not hurt, it does not hurt. But now the right side of my jaw is smaller then the left, slightly, but still i can notice the difference. It does not hurt to open my mouth, I can open it as wide as i wish, and i am ok. This is the first time this has happened. Um, I suppose i should mention that before this incident my jaw would pop ( on bouth sides )if i opened my mouth really wide. There wouldn't be any pain, nor clicking sounds, i would just feel a slight pop( it would not go out of place ) Though now, after this incident, when i open my mouth real wide only the left side does the slight pop. The right side ( the one that popped IN ) doesn't. And i mention again, it does not hurt, nor bother, but it IS noticeably smaller. What should i do? Did the right side of my jaw go back in its proper place, and the left is the one that i should worry over? Or...is the right side of my jaw disslocated? what is going on and what should i do? - Thank you. sincerely, Justine.

Dr. Williams, I have had diabetes for 20 yrs and for most of that time my A1c's have been over 10. It has done a number on my teeth. A little more than a year ago I went on the pump and A1c's have been 6.5 for a year. My gums have recided almost to the root. I have had several teeth removed and have tooth aches all the time. I can not afford to have any dental work done, but wish I could get complete implants done. I have a difficult time eating and have even choked a few times. Do you know anyway I could get some help? Please I am desprate. Our state won't help they say husband makes to much, yet with rising cost he doesn't make enough. Please can you give me any idea's on how or what I can do. it it safe to perform dental surgery whilst being 5 months pregnant. The procedure is an extraction where the dentist has to cut the gums to remove the tooth.
can impacted molars cause face deformation? or TMJ? my face was just normal before and now my jaws are larger and my chin is protruded, even my mouth. thanks.
My son has discoloration of his teeth, probably related to a fever of medication as a toddler during formation of the teeth. As a teenager the severe discoloration is obvious and distracting. One dentist recommends surface composite to his front teeth, while another recommends veneers. What is the difference in result and longevity? What questions should I be asking? Who should perform either procedure? How do I find out who is most qualified to perform either service in my area?
Testing Ask the Doc - 09/23.
im in me early 30s and havent been to the dentist in about 15 yrs,i hate the place, now im suffering big time, ive lost most of my back teeth, through rot,and now some at the sides,my gums all inflamed and really sore, and now one side of my jaw up like a balloon, could this be an abcess?will the rest of my teeth have to be extracted, and false ones fitted,or is there any other thing can be done, never smile or try to talk as my teeth is in such a state
I had 3 implants on the upper right 2 yrs. ago. After healing, the temporary caps were put on. When the final caps were put on, the dentist's assistant put them on and had me bite down on a cotton roll. The rest of the upper teeth had new caps also. The gums on the inner side (palate) of my mouth have been very sore and irritated feeling, but several drs. said they don't see anything, or infection. However, my mouth throbs and I've been taking asperin and Zanax to relieve the pain. The dentist was able to take off the crowns on the implant side and he put temps back on, and it feels somewhat better, except for the 1st implant (next to the upper molar) which is a little red, but hurts me. On the upper left side, the gums feel sore and the 2nd to last molar has a red, irritated gum. Is it possible that when the caps were put on, and the assistant had me bite down, that the caps were pushed up into my gums too far that is causing me this pain. The caps have been on for 15 months and I've been in pain for 15 mos. I've been to the dentist a dozen times and he just keeps saying there's nothing wrong. My mouth hurts, and I've spent a ton of money trying to fix my mouth. What do you think about the caps being pushed up too far? Thank you for your time.
My 10 year old son with beautiful teeth has lately been developing vertical grooves in his front teeth. His front teeth also are becoming dark yellow, almost orange vertical lines? What could be causing this?? I stopped giving fluoride tablets when he was 3 b/c scared about fluoride intake. He drinks little milk(calcuim problem?) and very little juice(vitamin C problem?) I know he brushes too long and too hard...worried about germs...HELP!
I went to the dentist, recieved some penicilln. I did not take it. Because my tooth quit hurting I was waiting on my insurance thru work to start, well my cheek started swelling so I started the pills. I have had 4 pills so far. My cheek is still swollen from my cheek bone to my jaw bone. Will it subside? I also have a very red blister like spot inside by the tooth & gumline.
Hi Doctor! I would like to ask which one is better, to have a root canal or a dental bridge? Also how long do root canals last? thanks a lot.

I'm getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled a few days after Christmas. I'm very nervous. I want to have the local done but I dont know if my dentist will give me laughing gas before giving me the shots, are they allowed to do that? I want the laughing gas because I know it will calm me down and I will probably be anything but calm! Also do I get a choice in what kind of anesthia I want or does my dentist choose, I really want local because of my fear of needles I dont want an IV sedation or general done. btw I'm 16 so I know it wont be as bad on me as it would on an adult so I'm not worried about the pain.
I am 29yrs old and today i had my top, first molar tooth removed after months of problems with it. I am not happy with my dentist as he never explains anything properly and need some advice. It was brought to my attention following x-rays that i do not have any wisdom teeth, which i hear is a blessing! My question now is that my second pre-molar, which has a filling in it now feels painful. Could this be down to the tooth next to it having been removed? Also, what happens from here with the massive gap in my mouth? I have heard that it takes some 8mths for the bone and gum to heal,is that true? and what are my options to fill the gap? i am possibly going to need orthodontic treatment as my bite doesnt sit evenly and this was the initial cause of the problem with the first molar that was removed. The tooth should of been taken out months ago, but the dentist choose to crown it and where it kept knocking against the crown on my lower jaw (through bite issue) it kept falling out. I'm sorry this message is so long, but my teeth are really important to me. I have always looked after them and hadnt had any problems or fillings until i had a baby. I would appreciate any advice you could give, Many thanks :0)
I am 32 who previously 5years ago had gastric bypass and my teeth r decaying bad my top front teeth are breaking apart but i dont have have ins
I am 49 years old and I see the dentist twice a year and have only 3 fillings. I take care of my teeth and brush 3 times a day. What does it mean when your tooth becomes slightly black around the bottom near the gum.
Dear Dr. Williams, I have been experiencing pain on the right side of my cheeks since christmas day. At firt, I thought it was a sinus infection and I went to my Dr. to get antibiotics. I was treated with Ceftin for two weeks. Now the pain is still here after disappearing shortly for a few hours in the first week of taking the antibiotics. I am making an appt. today to see a Dentist on tomorrow. I am wondering what questions I should ask the Dentist, or do you have any suggestions as to what could be causing this right pain in upper and lower side of mouth around tooth and gum area? Thankyou, Amecia Moody

Hello , I'm going to require reconstructive surgery followed by dental implants but the cost of them is more than I can afford . Is there a less expensive alternative besides dentures that will slip and slide ? Please help..
Hi, Many of the times when I have experienced pain at the dentist, he has actually said to me, "You can't be having pain, it's just a pressure and the sensation." Really? I'm 48 years old, have given birth naturally three times, and I know the difference between pain and pressure. It has happened when I have had root canals (can't be feeling pain, no nerve) and when I was being fitted for a crown after a tooth implant (once again, no nerve). I am telling you, when he starts poking around there is PAIN. I jump, he gets frustrated and doesn't believe me. He'll give me more novacaine, I still feel the pain, but just gut it out. Can you tell me why this is? I am having a sligth tooth ache and I actually had to put cold water on four different teeth to pin point the problem tooth. When cold hits my mouth the whole lower left half hurts. Is it something with my nerves? Thanks for your help.
HI DOC! IM 16 AND JUST 2 DAYS AGO MY FRONT TOOTH STARTED TO ACHE REAL BAD WHEN I WOULD DRINK WATER OR ANY LIQUID AND ITS HURTS WHEN I EAT.WHAT CAN THIS BE
I have had an apico surgery on the front tooth, abouth one month ago. This tooth was already treated with a root canal the previous year. I was still having discomfort, it took 6 month before the doctor saw the problem. Since the surgery I have no feeling in the front of my mouth were the surgery was done, my right nostril and the right side of my lip doesn't look like the other side. The doctor told me that the feelings will come back. And my face should be back after 1 month. Nothing is the same and I have a lot of anxiety. I have never had this before, I do not feel nothing at all. Please help me.
Im 27 years old a mother of 3 boys. My teeth are rotten realy bad i can brush my teeth and spit a piece of the rotten teeth out. I unemployed have no benefits what should i do
I have a 13 month old son and I just noticed that one of his teeth has a cavity. I was just wondering what a dentist can do about it and if his permenent teeth are going to be prone to cavities? Does his have anything to do to the fact that i have never gone to a dentist?
I just had a drilling done in a rear molar. I had a novacaine shot and my gum where I had the shot has been sore for 5 days. What can be done for the soreness. I used an over the counter oral anesthetic. Should I wait or go back to the dentist to see what is going on?
I was recently told I am now a diabetic. The doctor gave me some medicine to take called Actos About 2 days after I took the medicine, I noticed that that 3 teeth have turned partially black from my gum up about half way. I have been to the dentist prior to this and they found nothing wrong other than some plaque. Can this medicine cause my teeth to turn black or did something else do this. It was so fast after I took this medicine that I wonder if I need to stop before the rest of my teeth turn black. The first tooth is one of the anchor teeth that holds my partial in. The other two are not attached to the partial but the partial runs behind them. I have six teeth that are still mine (all lower). I have a full upper denture.
hi, thanks for answering my questions about bonded molar. Like I said to you earlier, when I look on the tongue side of the tooth that is bonded that has a hole/splintered i see lines. The bottom of the molar was created with the bonding to look like a tooth as the filling was out. However, I only see the line on one side. You said ou can see the line/joint where bonding meets. However, can you feel it too?
My four year old has a bump/cyst looking thing on his gums. He says it doesn't hurt. What is it.
I had a temporary crown put on a couple weeks ago. The process took over three hours and the dentist injured the inside of my cheek - I went home with an open wound there! The dentist didn't warn me so I didn;t realize it until I was home and tried to do a warm salt-water rinse after the anesthesia wore off. IS this common? normal? I have to go back for the permanent crown replacement, but they want to do another crown and I am afraid they will cause the same type of injury - these are my far back teeth, next to where my wisdon teeth used to be - should I just have the tooth removed instead of risking the cheek injury again? Now I am scared to have the work done - even by another dentist.
My 7 yr old son had 4 silver caps placed on his back molars two years ago. Over time 3 of the 4 have came out at different times. He still has what appears to look like cement in the area of what the cap covered and has never complained of any pain. Last night he was complaining of one hurting. I gave him Tylenol, Motrin, & put Orajel cream on it to get him through the night. This morning he didn't complain, however he did mention it again around lunch. Do the caps need to be put back on? I was led to understand that he would lose these caps as they were not on permanent teeth. If in fact he does need these put back on, should he always have them or will he eventually lose them again.
For about a week I had sensitivity to cold, and sometimes hot in an area that I had a root canal done 5 months ago. Although the x-ray showed notheing suspicious, my dentist suggested that the sensitivity is coming from the tooth behind the tooth that was root canaled, and is suggesting to get a root canal in that tooth as well, and to fit it with a crown. After the visit with her, the sensitivity has gone away. It has not been sensitive for 5 days now. My question is: Should I go forth and do root canal and crown, as suggested?, or do I wait to see if the sensitivity returns?
I had an apico on my front tooth (#8) a year and a half ago. All follow ups pointed that it was successful. Recently my tooth is getting loose and feeling a bit infected again. I don't think there is hope to save this tooth (there is a cap on it right now). If it is infected, will i have to get another apico or can i just have it cleaned out and a bridge or crown put on? I am 34 years old and my front tooth has looked terrible for many years- first dentist did not do a good job on the crown. I have had a crown for 21 years. I really don't want to get another apico. Just wondered what my options are. Thanks.
When you have gum disease (not gingivitis) do your gums bleed often and are they an angry swollen red color? I believe I have gum disease but my gums don't bleed ever when I brush?

I have two missing teeth that never formed I'm not exactly sure the proper name but they should be next to my two front teeh on both sides. I want to know what is is fatsest and most cost effecient way to coreect this problem and ultimately straighten my smile and build my confidence.
I had went to a dentist about one tooth I needed fixed, during the first exam he mentioned my old mercury/metal filings should be replaced, they had been there sence I was 16, I am now 35 with no problems, anyhow he drilled the old fillings 6 of them all in the same visit, put in new white fillings & filled the other tooth I went in for. Eversence I have had nothing but pain & swelling & problems. I told the dentist about it, I have went back to him 3 times sence he did the work for what he called adjustments, he filed down my teeth & even broke one of them, each time with out using any novocain & it only increased the pain & swelling. He gave me Ibuprofen & Vicoten & sent me on my way. It has now been over a month & a half sence he worked on my teeh the first time & two weeks sence I have been back at all & evry tooth he touched hurts, I think have an infection or something, the hole side of my face feels hot & hurts from the top of my head to my shoulder on that side, I can't sleep at night, I can't eat, drink anything that isn't room temp. and even breathing in air seems to make it worse. I know he did something wrong, I am affraid to go back to him again, everytime I do he seems to make it worse. When I call other dentists they don't want to see me cause they didn't do it. I am in so much pain I can't stand it no more! What can I do? What should I do?

I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM. I HAD ALL 4 WISDOM TEETH PULLED. 3 HEALED BUT ONE HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE A WHITE GROWTH IN IT. IT SMELLS REALLY BAD. I CALLED THE DENTIST AND HE SAID THAT THIS WAS OK BECAUSE IT SOMETIMES HAPPENS. HE SAID IT IS PROBABLY A SCAB. THAT EVER IT IS ITS HUGE AND SMELLS REALLY BAD AND I KNOW THAT THERE IS A HOLE UNDER IT BECAUSE WHEN I BRUSH MY TEETH SOMETIMES IT PULLS UP AND YOU CAN SEE THE HOLE. I AM SCARED AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO HEAL THIS SOONER THAN LATER. I CAN'T EVEN TALK TO PEOPLE BECAUSE EVERYONE SAYS THAT EVEN FROM A FAR DISTANCE YOU CAN SMELL MY SMELLY BREATH EVEN AFTER I BRUSH MY TEETH. PLEASE HELP ME HEAL THIS. IT IS THE GROSSEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. THANKS.
Hello, my son is 13 and he fractured his two front teeth, they each had a crack at the top of each tooth and some little red lines going through the teeth! The detist took the nerves out the first visit the second visit they did complete root canals and the thrid visit they told me they had to be crowed! Should he have had that all done? And will he need inplants later on, because they told me they just don't know how long this will last! I just wanted to know have I done the right thing with my son, he had perfect teeth and no cavities and now he might have to have inplants for his two front teeth some day...Thank you!

It has been 8 years since i have gotten all of my permanent teeth in, but one baby tooth never fell out and my permanent tooth was above it stuck in my gums and it wouldnt push the baby tooth out. I went to the dentist to get the baby tooth extracted so maybe the permanent tooth will come down out of my gums, but if it doesn't what could an oral surgen do to pull the permanent tooth down to where it is supposed to be? Also how long should i wait to see if the tooth comes down by itself?
I am 44 years old, had braces at 14. Just about 5 months ago, on Jan 6th, to be exact, I woke up and it felt like my teeth had all moved and my bite was off. I went to the ortho and he told me that it is very common for teeth to shift over the years and I can get braces/or retainer if I want. My issue is this, when I went to the ortho and had a full mouth xray, he asked me if anyone had ever told me that I had what looks like a small tooth growing behind my top front teeth, because it looked like a boney thing in the xray. Ever since then, it has a constant pain, like throbbing just on my top teeth in the same spot where he asked me this. Is this possible and can I get it removed to make the pain stop? Is it cancerous or a tumor or anything? Who would be the person to talk to, the Ortho really didn't know, should I go to an Oral Surgeon? It really is painful all the time all day. Also my bite is off, but is ok when I wake up first thing in the morning, but as the day goes on, it shifts again. This all started only 5 months ago, never had problems before this. Am I fixable? Thanks!
is invagilin recommended for anyone that requires braces?

I have moderate gum disease. I don't have any loose teeth but 5-7 mm pockets and some bone loss. Need to have scaling done. I quit smoking about 5 weeks ago and noticed when I floss, gums bleed now since quitting smoking. Also will quitting smoking help to stop periodontal disease? Thank you.

My son lost his front tooth due to injury when he was younger. He is now 18 years old and ready for an implant, however, he first needs bone grafting. Will he be able to wear his flipper immediately after the bone grafting, or will he have wait for it to heal?

Dr. Williams, One and a half weeks ago I was hit in the mouth by one of our dogs while playing, due to his hard head she has done what looks like brusied on of my front teeth on the bottom. It is sensitive to cold extremely bad to where you feel like crying but hot doesn't bother it. The tooth is not loose, can you tell me if this hurting and sensitivty will go away in a slow process or do I need to go to a dentist to have it looked at? Thank you so much for your help!
My very back molar has a large silver filling on the front side that goes between the tooth in front of it. The filling is very old and not giving me any problems but it has shrunk and there is a small space between it and the tooth. My dentist said he could crown it, but is is possible to have a composite resin filling or porcelain filling instead of a crown. Thank you.
woman 6 months pregnant, w/ MVP, needs to be premed. Can she take the antibiotics before dental procedure? thanks.
My son chipped one of his front teeth when he was a year old. He turn 4 this past March and I noticed the chipped tooth turned brown. He developed an abscess and I took him to a pediatric dentist who stated the nerve is damaged and his body is now treating the tooth like a splinter. He reccommended we remove the tooth as well as the one directly beside it. He said this would assure his permanent teeth would come in straight (Of course genetics would be a factor. His father and I both have "perfectly" straight top teeth without ever wearing braces). My question is: Should I allow him to pull the second tooth? He also suggested sedation to remove the second tooth stating the damaged tooth would be easier to remove and it is somewhat loose.
My trips in 54 years have been far and few between. We have usually spent the money on my husband's mouth -- his teeth are terrible. I have only had 1 cavity. I have had some plaque build up on the lower teeth on the inside. When brushing the other day a small sliver of the center bottom tooth came off and then I continued to brush and half of the inside of that same tooth came off. It is rough inside. A week later, I was brushing again, only to have two small side slivers come off. There is no pain, but what procedure would a dentist do on something like this and what price range are we looking at? Thanks.
i just recently starting biting my tongue when i talk. this is so frustration and i don't know why this started and how can it be stopped. I have a tooth missing in the back on that side, but it has been missing for 8 years. why is this happening?
I got vaneers done on my two front teeth, one of them I had a root canal. the one that I had a root canal was fine in its color until the vaneers were put in. The color of my tooth began to show when I had the temps and after the vaneers. I went in & complained about the discoloration. The doc injected my tooth with bleech and discoloration was gone. About a month later, the color came back. Doc did not have an answer to why my tooth continued to discolor. So, I then had acrown to replace the vaneer b/c of its color and that still did not work, in fact it became worse now my gum line looks bruised with a dark tooth. My question is why is my tooth still getting discolored with all the cosmestic procedures and what is that could be done?? Thank you in advance
A few years ago I got my wisdom teeth taken out, all four at once, and my face, neck and chi area is still swollen. Is this normal?
My 6 year old just lost her 1st molar (2nd from the back upper left side). She has already lost her 8 front teeth. She has had no cavities and we see her sentist regularly (last Friday was the most recent cleaning). The dentist noticed her molar was wiggling and took an additional x-ray to check for infection, and nothing. The was fine and she said that it would loosen over time and come out shortly. I had no idea "shortly" would be 4 days. My daughter is fine with no pain (she actually pulled it out very easily with little pain), but do I have reason for future concern, or do I simply have an advanced child? Thank you in advance, I think I just need another opinion. Desiree Hoyt
dear doc, i have symptoms of strep throat, but what i am worried about is, i have a "jelly bean" size lump above my tonsil. i am growing concerned as everyday the pain in my throat doubles.
My wisdom teeth are growing and the right one has came in fine. However there is a bone in the top left of my mouth,I guess my jaw bone. It is behind my wisdom tooth and the bone is swollen and hurts when I swallow or press my tongue up aginst it. The wisdom tooth on that side is coming in at angle and I know must come out. There is no pain with the tooth but only with the bone. The bone on the other side of my mouth is normal and much smaller. I want to know if this problem is caused by my left wisdom tooth growing or something more serious. Thank you for your time.
Questions #1: I have a tooth that is very loose. At one time the Dentist tried to do a root canal but I have multiple roots and it was too sensitive. Years have passed and now the tooth is a shell and very loose. How do I pull it, my Dental appointment is not till July 11, 2007 and I do not think I can keep it in my mouth that long, it is very loose, hard to eat and even talk. It is a molar on the bottom left side of my mouth. It is so loose I feel I could pull it out with my hand. What should I do? Even though it is loose the least amount of pressure makes it hurt. Question#2: I recently visited the Dentist and they said I had no cavities. But I have a lump on the right underside of my jaw and it hurts. It is soft when I touch it. My Jaw hurts, it hurts so bad it maes my ear hurt and my eye hurt and gives me a headache starting at the lower back of my nect and moving it. It hurts to chew on the side where my jaw is sore. The Doctor referred me to an Endonologist but I have not been scheduled in yet for a consultation. The dentist wants them to evaluate #3 and #4. #4 had a root canal and my regular Dentist wonders if maybe it has gone bad. My tooth #3 has a real old filling and a more recent filling. The more recent filling is close to the nerve and my Dentist wonders if this is what is causing me my pain. Please help me. P.S. I am a 53 year old woman with 5 children and as of today I have a full-set (32) of teeth.
Hello, About a year or more ago I went to the dentist to get some teeth filled at that time he told me my wisdom teeth looked like they would be coming in crooked. I had no problems with them until recently. They have been partially out for a couple of months now and I get occasional pain. Well for the past couple of days I have been having jaw soarness and neck soarness..can this be from an infection? or can it be from those wisdom teeth causing my other teeth to shift?
Do you have any advice to what procedures one can take if they are suffering from a severe case of what they are calling "meth mouth" from prior drug use?
My wisdom teeth are comming in, and on the lower right side on my mouth, there is a big bump forming around my last molar tooth, before my wisdom tooth. i cant get into the dentist for at least 2 weeks. what should i do, and is this serious?
My grandmother has never had a lower denture- we took her to see the dentist and they said that she needed her "lower gums trimmed"- does this procedure have a name? what does it involve? thanks for all your help and knowledge.
i need a perio done on my gums, but one of my front teeth is sort of loose and begun to hurt, if it has to come out what goes in its place and how long does it take to get one
my 12yr old has new molars comming through on both sides of the mouth. The problem is he still has his baby teeth which are only a little loose causing him pain. Should i leave them to fall out on there own or take him to the dentist to have them removed.
My neice has a problem with her cuspids(vampire teeth). They are really high above all her other teeth. She doesn't want braces now that she is 19 and in college. What else can be done? Can they be estracted? She thinks that they can and I say braces are the only answer.....what do you think?
I have an absess on the lower right side of my mouth. It's sore, it's interfering with eating, and feels like my tooth is shifting. Is this common with an absess?
why does the temporary bridgework cause my mouth and throat to feel sore and swollen all the time?
I have a very hard bump on my gums (top gum-very top over one tooth) --this tooth has had a root canal. It does not hurt when i bite down, only when i touch the bump. also when i move my mouth a certain way it is as if the bump moves down and causes pressure on the tooth. what is wrong????

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE HYDROCO WHILE IM 5 MONTHS PREGNANT FOR TOOTH PAIN
My daughter is 10 and has a problem with her permanant teeth growing in with advanced state of decay on them. Mainly her molars. The decay was so bad that she had to have root canals done on both of her permanant morals, but anyone I took her to would not perform the procedure. By the time I found a dentist that would do the repair work, one tooth was too far gone and had to be extracted. I am very concerened that this is going to be a reoccurring theme, is there anything I can do beyond tooth brushing, mouth rinse and regular check ups? She also needs braces, is this extraction going to cause a problem with her ability to get them? Thanks for your input.
I have had alot of trouble with my teeth lately but i have just went and had a cleaning and xrays about 1 month ago. I am scheduled for a root canal the beginning of august. I am very worried about a hard lump that has formed since the trip to my dentist. I have lost a crown on the rear left molar bottom. Where the crown was lost has now on the side grown a hard painless lump. when i push on it it is hard like part of my jawbone. The gum tissue around this hard lump has grown very pale almost white. There has now a week later a all white small patch above the area. I could take a picture if needed. I fear a tumor from what i read online, is there anything else this could be? FYI I have smoked for 14 yrs and drink alcohol regularly. What makes no sense is if they just took xrays less than a month ago, wouldnt they have seen it if it was a tumor, or is it possible one grew that fast afterward?? thanks you
I had a left back toothe removed a week (very infected, but never got an antibiotic before the extraction or after. A week after extraction my whole face is swollen and hot feeling. I don't think I have a dry socket because I'm not in pain, just can't see very well becuase the swelling is moving up to my eye. My dentist said it could be a reaction from taking aspirin every 6hr for a week. He told me to go to my regular doctor and make sure it's not shingles or some John something syndrom. It's not that and my dr. recommended benedryl because it might be an allergic reaction from the aspirin which I have been taking for a day and m face doesn't feel as hot, but still swollen. Cslled my dentist last night and asked if I could get an antibiotic because maybe I have some residual infection from the tooth. I took one last night and this morning. What is going on? Could I have an infection from the tooth? Will the penicillin and benedryl help. Thanks. My fsce has been swollen for 2 1/2 days now.
My 7 year old is complaining her teeth hurt when she eats both hot and cold food. Is this just a sensitivity and do they make kids sensitive toothpaste? Also, Her new 2 front teeth came in and have a tint of yellow to them. Do they just need cleaned?
my friend has a two year old son and his lip underneath is stuck between his front teeth. what is this? im not sure how long it had been like this, i just noticed it about a week ago.
A dentist "shaved" down one of my bottom back molars to improve the bite. In the process took off too much of the filling and now there is decay, infected gum and infected roots. Does this tooth have to be removed?
I had 5 teeth pulled (mostly wisdom) almost 3 weeks ago. For the first week I had broth, non-chunky soups, and some ice cream. Because the soups were low sodium and the ice cream was not a premium brand, I didn't think much of the lack of taste. Second week was full of plain food that had to go into the food processor. Now I am back to regular foods, but there is a serious lack of flavor. I can taste sweet. salty, and bitter in the back of my tongue and that's about it. When my teeth were pulled could this have messed with my sinuses? Sinus problems could lead to lack of flavor via smelling ability issues, correct? I still have occasional pain behind my ear - the same place that I had intense pain while he was pulling my teeth. Do I follow up with the oral surgeon? or my doctor? Is this common and will go away on its own? My dentist seemed more baffled by this than me. Thank you for your help.
Hi: I had a recent root canal on #9 (for an abcess and mild internal resorption) and have the option of either putting a permanent filling in the hole or crowning the tooth; the tooth isn't perfect but looks OK, but there is a mild cosmetic issue related to the fact that #8 and #9 were chipped a long time ago, and putting a crown on #9 won't match #8. So I would probably need to do both together at some point. My question is whether I could just do the permanent filling now and the two crowns down the road a bit, or if it becomes necessary. Any disadvantages/risks to this thinking?
i have a broken tooth in my mouth in the back of my mouth in the upper rigt coner my gum is sollen and a peace of my teeth is sticking in my gum i feel it when i bite what to do

My 3 yr. daughter one front tooth turned dark about 6 months ago, she now notices it and calls it her ugly tooth. Is there anything cosmetic we can do to make it appear white again? Thanks
I started seeing a new dentist. We decided to replace a sensitive crown and perform a filling next to it. We attempted to numb me up for this, and although all around it is numb, the tooth when being worked on, was not numb. After 5 shots, one into the bone with a bent needle, I seemed to be mostly numb. He put on the temporaries and we scheduled the appointment to put on the permanants. I went back in yesterday to have the permanants in (inlay and the crown), and again, we had a horrible time getting me numb. At one point, it seemed that I was numb, but it only lasted for 5 minutes, before I could feel again. I've never had this problem before, but then again, I usually had laughing gas in the past. My anxiety is much lower. The only time I feel anxious is after the shot, because of the epinephrine in it, which goes away in a few minutes. I am wondering if there is anything else I should be doing to help this. Or maybe if there is a differnt type of local anesthetic we should be trying. I know he has 2 differnt ones that he is using, plus a desensitizer. The realy kicker is that my crown wasn't right, so we put the temporary back on and we still have to try again in a week. Any advise would be great. Thanks Samantha L.
I recently had temporary crowns on my 4 front upper teeth. They look bulky and appear to hang low, covering most of my lower teeth. My upper lip is also slightly protruding. Is this a normal look? Is the bulkiness due to the acrylic that's used to make the crowns? Will the permanent crowns look thinner and more realistic like my real teeth? Also, my lower teeth keeps hitting the back of my upper temporary crowns whenever I eat or close my mouth. I could scratch the back of the crowns with my lower teeth. Is there anything that can be done to change this? I'd appreciate a response. Thank you.
i just got an upper partial denture, since i had no back teeth. it really hurts and i can only wear it for about for hours. is there anything that i can use to make it not hurt?
My back molar has a crown that had a root canal broke off today (at gum line). I was referred to an oral surgeon to have the remaining tooth removed. They suggested that I get an implant for that tooth. My insurance does not cover that procedure and I was wondering if I could get a bridge on that very back molar (remember there isn't any tooth left). I really do not have the money for the implant so I was hoping there was such a thing as a two unit bridge? Thanks for any help on this matter.
i have crowns at the front of my mouth last november i had the top of my tooth cut and cleaned they allso took some of my bone away as the infection was so bad. i did go into hospital a month before that but they sent me home and said nothing was wrong, the crown has been loose ever since i now now that i have an infection in it again but i cant bear to loose a front tooth , i know i can have a brigde but how long will it take after they remove the tooth , this is really frighting me as i cant really affoard a brigde either as i know they are very expence
Hi, i'm in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy, i'm 18 weeks pregnant and i was wondering if novacaine is safe to have if i get dental work. i have 2 teeth that have holes in them and are bothering me really bad i can't eat on one side already from a tooth having a hole in it. now the other side has a tooth with a hole in it. and i am wondering if novacaine is safe while 18 weeks pregnant. thank you for your time. have a good day.

I went to my dentist for a regular checkup, he filled tooth 12 and crowned tooth 13. i developed a pain on my teeth that was hard to pin point, (12 or 13) eventually the pain was clearly on 12, the dentist said i needed a crown on 12 also. Before the crown I had to see an endodontis for a root canal on 12. after being on clindamicyn wich tourned out to be deadely to my GI system. anyways now, the root canal is done . tooth 12 is still tender, however now i am having pain on the back of tooth 13 (the crown) it feels as if the gum is irritated . no sensitivity to cold, not heat. What do you think it is. Could the crown be to high.
my 5 yr old son had his first dental visit, we were told that he needed root canal. Is this really necessary? Because they're baby teeth , aren't they?
My partner has a hard bump above his teeth top gum close to where the soft tissue starts, but really near the upper gum. When he first described it to me I thought it was an absess and sent him to the doc who Rx medication Metrodiazole. The meds didnt seem to decrease it in size so I asked if I could have a look and feel. It doesnt feel like an absess and there is no soft tissue swelling around the area. He also went to the dentist and she did xrays?? She said it didnt look "dark" like an absess, that there didnt seem to be a problem with the surrounding teeth and that it could be a "nerve" dying??? I am puzzled? It hurts for him to kiss me and smile. It has been there about 2 months now??
HI i am 18 years old ..... i have had braces on for 5 years and then got them removed a year ago..now i consider whiteing my teeth but i have two problems or rather concerns; after the removal of braces there were white spots all over my teeth and the dentist polished most of them off, after which, very small white spots remained in areas around where the brackets were . there are only seen when carefelly inspected as they are small..i dont know if these are decalcified spots, or composite of the glue that held the brackets...any how my question is; if they are decalcified spots can i still have whiteing done i figured that not so visible white spots on a yellowish background teeth wont be visible in white background teeth...... My second concern is that i have been told that some types of the material used by orthodontics (similar to composite) remain on the teeth forever and CANT EVEN be seen by naked eye as they go deep in the teeth pores nd polishing the bulky part on the outer teeth doesnt remove the material in the pores of the teeth and by bleacing it would appear as dark circles where the bonding material was applied..is that true ..if so then how can i get whiter teeth safely..(i dont know what material my orthodentist used and i am pretty sure all he did after removing the brakets was polishing no special debonding procedure although there is no visible spots where the brakets were) i figured i could try bleaching on my inner teeth the ones hidden by lips to see what would be the outcome..can i do that..i d being used a home whiteing tray with a tray made by dentist.can this be a good measure to forsee the outcome. and if i got non uniform teeth after bleaching..what are my recovery solutions thanks very much please reply as soon as possible
I noticed about a month ago two of my teeth next to my front teeth turned a dark, almost but not quite, black color right next to my gum. Within the last two days it spread to my front teeth, top and bottom, all against my gumline. I can't find any info on this. I have stomach problems and take a lot of Pepto Bismol and I know that makes my tongue black sometimes. Could this be it or something more serious? Cam I use Crest Whitening strips. PLEASE give me some idea because I can't afford to go to the dentist unless you think it could be something serious. I can't smile because it looks like I don't brush my teeth! Thanks!
im 20 years old and have braces. My teeth are in pretty good condition. On my last visit i was told by the ortho that i need an extensive teeth cleaning because i havent had one in a while, but that my insurance does not cover it.I wanted to know if its necessary to get extensive cleanings with braces? How much can you get clean with braces?I mean what good is the cleaning going to do when i take my braces off. Will i need another cleaning then also?
I am 16 weeks pregnant and I just went to the dentist and they did a few XRAYs on my teeth. I wore a lead vest during the XRAYs could there be any problems from getting the XRAYS while pregnant?
is there any i can help ease the pain with my absess
Approximately 6 months ago my husband had to go to the dentist for intense pain and swelling in the right lower side of his mouth. A filling had loosened and become infected. The dentist put him on antibiotics and made him an appointment to come back. The dentist said there was not enough left to do a root canal, so he extracted the tooth, and put in a temporary one until he could get in the permanent one. The night of the extraction and for several days following, my husband complained of tooth pain and there was more swelling. My husband went back in and had more x-rays done and the dentist said all of his other teeth were perfect….no cavities, cracks, or any other problems. The pain and swelling eventually went away…but now the tooth beside of that one has suddenly became loose. VERY LOOSE! There is no pain, but a fowl taste and a super-loose tooth! My husband brushes and flosses frequently and takes very good care of his mouth. Just 6 months ago, the dentist said his teeth were perfect…what could have happened? Could the extraction have caused the other tooth to loosen? Is there a way to tighten it back up? He still has the temporary tooth in the hole where the other was extracted. The dentist keeps saying that the permanent one has not came in yet. It was supposed to be in the office within 2 weeks…we are just really confused about everything. We have already paid him and insurance has paid…so it is about maxed to the year. I’m not sure that we could go to another dentist and incur the full-cost… Any suggestions? Do you have any idea why that other tooth may be loose? Please help! Thank you in advance!

I am 20 years old and ever since I can remember my two front teeth have yellow spots on them. My dentist said that it was probably due to a trama such as falling and bruising my gums before I got my adult teeth. Could this be true? If it is can they be fixed? Thanks!
A few months ago i was eating popcorn and the next day the gum became sore and round little lump popped up. Them went away a few days later. A week or so later a small pimple like sore formed on the roof of my mouth. It pops, heals and come back in a week or two in the same spot. It is mildly sore with no pain on any of my teeth. Any ideas? Thank you,

I am 21 and In the last two days I have noticed that after I eat I get a bitter taste in my mouth that lasts for pretty much the whole day. This is also resulting in mild bad breath, no matter how much I brush afterwards. is this something i can fix? Please help!
I was at the dentist on tues. 7-10-07 i had 5th one back on top right, and had an upper right lateral crown put pack on. The dr. gave me a bunch of shots, I wasn't staying numb. The last time he shot into the roof of my mouth and it felt like something burning bad for like 15 secs. Now its 5 days later, all the dental work has healed, but the roof of my mouth. and it seems to be getting worse. It feels raw, a little bruised, and its a large area . It almost feels like i got blisters now down the back of my throat. I called the dentist today and he said just give it time to get well. The salt water rinses for the extractions, burn really bad. Do you have any suggestions.
I'm 21 years old, I have crowded teeth, theyre really hard to clean and they've been slowly chipping away and rotting after a period of time(which is making them really nasty looking). So I was wondering how much would it cost to have all my teeth pulled and get false teeth, without insurence? Thank you, ~Martin Dickerson~
My daughter lost her first top front tooth about a month or two ago but there is no sign of the new tooth at all. I keep looking in her mouth and it is just all gum. How long will it take for the new tooth to erupt
i recently went to a new dentist for a severe toothache and she discovered my wisdom tooth on the lower right back needed to come out and it seems to have damaged or put pressure on the the two in front of it. she also told me one of them has a silver crown and that i have a abcess under it so she put me on antibotics and pain killers and she is doing the referral for the oral surgery. but my question is now my mouth won't open wide at all. is this normal? i didn't have this problem before.i've never used my dental ins before... does the dentist always call in the referral to your ins. company and the oral surgery contacts you or do you call the dentist office to see when they sent it in and contact your own ins company for the oral surgeons name. any help would be appreciated.
I recently had a bridge put in my lower right side of my mouth. I ended up having to have a root canal on the tooth that the bridge was attched to. It has been 1 month and i still have a hard lump in my lower jaw line beneath the tooth that had the root canal. It also is still numb, and when I push on it , I can feel pain in the tooth he did the root canal on. I am presently on an anti-biotic for another 2 days. I am so afraid that I am not going to get feeling back and I am going to have to live with this. My dentist feels just probably nerve and will come around. How long will it take??
im 7 months pregnant and my wisdom tooth has to come out some dentist will do it and some wont? how will they take it out? and will they have to out me under? and what kind of pain meds will i have to take? thank u
Hi, I have asked you many questions before and you've been helpful. About a 1-1/2 years ago, I had a tooth abscess. My dentist set out to do a root canal, post and crown and later found out that he couldn't as he told me there was a root fracture. He went on to fill the tooth, the filling came out about 2 months later. He then bonded it. It remained until a couple of months ago, where there was a chip on the tongue side (I wrote to you about that). He did all dental and gum work on me a month ago, including filling the crack on the bonded tooth. It is not smooth and it is annoying me to death, as my tongue keeps going right to it. I went to see him on Saturday and he told me he didn't want to fool with the tooth too much. What is your suggestion? should i just let it go and try (if I can) to ignore it. I don't feel like this tooth is going to last....it feels weird to me. 1. how long does bonding usually last? 2. Can you tell me about root fractures? I don't chew on the tooth.....It is the top left side, 4th tooth from the front tooth, and I am terrified that I am going to have to have it extracted as it is a root fracture and from what I understand, those teeth are usually always a gonner. Please let me know? I need some insight on fractures, etc. Thank you! Donna
I am 27 weeks pregnant and I find out that I have an infection in one of my teeth can I have it pulled and what are some good medicines I can take.
You told me earlier today that you lost a tooth last year to a fracture. May I ask which tooth it was? Also, how long did you have this fracture and were you aware of it or did it get infected and it had to be extracted immediately? Thanks. I just seem to think that my dentist did something to cause this fracture. He filled the tooth 8 months prior to me abscessing. I went back to him 2X to tell him something wasn't right. He said the X-ray looked ok. Then, 8 months later I swelled and abscessed. During the Root Canal he told me he couldn't find the nerve (the second nerve) as he saw calcification? Not sure what that mean. Second time in, he found the nerve but told m e I had a fracture in the root and that a post and crown wouldn't hold. He tried a filling, that didn't hold as it was more filling than tooth and now it has been bonded for a year and a half. I am curious as to how fractures come about and what the symptoms are? Could you abscess from a fracture?
Why doesn't the dentist/orthodontist use a lead vest while x-raying my children? Why must I "demand" this? I fear how many actually occurred before I caught on....

dear doc hi my 7 year old nephew lost his upper front right & the tooth next to it on the right side milk teeth before the lower ones. Then upper front tooth at the right side appeared which was yellow in color.Today it started shaking so I took him to our dentist. On examining it through x-ray it was found that the tooth had no root .there was never any injury on that sight. Our dentist found it to be a peculiar case. All his other teeth are having normal formation of roots.he has a small jaw.Can you please guide us as to why such a thing could have happened and what can be the line of treatment as he is left with only one front tooth.as a matter of no choice that tooth was extracted
Hi there. I have had 2 bicuspids break, both requiring root canals and crowns. Now, just after getting one tooth 1/2 done, I was eating a soft bagel, and when I was done, my bottom tooth was chipped??? This is 3-chipped teeth in 8-months. I have been told I grind my teeth at night, but my bottom tooth does not line up with anything to grind on? I am 49 y.o. I am getting a bit scared due to the fact that the teeth that are chipping are getting real close to the front of my mouth. I just paid $1300- for a Princess all-porcelain crown for my last chip.any ideas what is happening here.?
I have had gum disease for 10+ years. I have had the surgery to deep clean and the bone growth powder put inside my gums to promote new bone growth. My gums in the past 5 years are still receeding and some of my lower molars have gotten very loose. One of my crowns on the bottom has been loose for a long time, and now I have 2, hard, gray spots showing through on my gums at the bottom of the crown on the inside of my mouth. Could this be part of the bottom of the crown that used to be beneath the gum line showing through? Now I have pain. What is the option when the teeth on the top from first molar on left to first molar on right are OK, and ditto on bottom, but the rest are all bad? Thank you for your time.
I HAD A PLASTIC TOOTH PUT IN ON MY UPPER TOWARDS THE FRONT. THE THIRD TOOTH OVER. THE CROWN HAD BROKEN AND TOOTH SO HE PUT A PLASTIC TOOTH IN. I WENT BACK AND GOT IT GROUNDED DOWN SOME BUT STILL BUGS ME. SEMS TO BE HITTING MY LIP AND MAKING IT SORE. WHAT CAN I DO?

Is it wise to have a tooth extracted after coming from a fever/flu due to tonsilitis?
My husband called me at work and said that his filling fell out and he has a tooth partially in his gum half of the tooth broke. How long should he wait until he sees the dentist, he said he is not in any pain?
my tooth is starting to break one after another in broken pieces.im only 21 what might be the problem?
I had a tooth extracted about a week ago, the dentist said it was one of the biggest teeth he had ever seen, and it left a humongous hole in my gum now the center is filled with whitish gunk, and there is a couple of shards of bone coming through the gum line, and it is majorly sore and hurting I am considering going back to the dentist and letting him take a look at it. What should I do?
my six year old daughter recently went to her regular dentist they found she had cavities on two of her back baby teeth and referred her to a pediatric dentist for them to be filled. She has already lost five baby teeth that had no sign of decay should we bother treating the teeth with cavities even though it seeems they will be falling out soon.

I have braces and I am also pregnant. My gums are so swollen they are going over my braces. I brush 2-3 times daily and floss. When I floss though not only do my gums bleed but it's almost as if my gums are flapping down they are so swollen. They are almost at the top of my bottom teeth. I just wanted to know how to get my gums back to normal. I can't continue with my braces process until they go down. Thank you for your time, hopefully you can be my angel and help me.
What kind of specialist do I need for an implant? Thank you.
Hey, I was wondering why a root canal would break. Is that something that normally happens, or would it have been put in improperly? Thank you!
Hello, Months ago my 11 year daughter had a root canal done and a gold crown was placed. This past week whe awoke with a swollen face, I took her to the dentist as an emergency and was told she needed to see an endodontist. Today she say the specialist and I am not being told that my daughters root canal was incomplete and that a piece of instrument was left on the canal. The cost of the repair will be over $700 dollars with my insurance. I contacted the original dentist office that did the root canal and they told me to bring her in. I am not sure what to do. I can not at this time afford to pay so much money especially for work that was already paid for and I am nervous of having the same office retreat the root canal if I was told she needed the specialist. Is it ok to allow the same dr. to do the work and should I be responsible to pay for the same work again? Also, my other child (6) had a root canal done same dentist on a baby tooth, the crown has fallen and when I called the dentist I was told that it called be that his other tooth is coming in and not to worry. Should I be worried? Please assist! Also, I do not understand, my children take excellent care of their teeth however they have all had a root canal all three of them as well as there dad (he has horrible teeth) could that be hereditary? Please assist. Thank you!
I'm about to get my braces off and inturn get retainers. I have a plan to get my lip pierced while I'm still using the retainer. Do you think I should wait to get the piercing untill I am done with them and if so why?
I had braces but I foolishly let my wisdom teeth grow in so a space issue caused my bottom row of teeth especially to crowd. One of my center bottom teeth is pushed back behind it's neighboring teeth. I've since over time developed a little brown spotting on the top of the crooked tooth. Is that due to it being difficult for a toothbrush to completely clean it or is the tooth dying? The back and bottom of the tooth look fine. Can slight browning be lighted with over the counter whiteners? Thanks!
i just left the dentist 1 month ago i had 2 crowns one is fine bur the other just started hurting a couple days ago then it quit hurting now it's very sore and my gums above it aer very sore it hurts more in the mornings after i first wake up then it eases off later in the day can you please help me???????
Hi doc, I am 29 1/2 weeks pregnant and just now i chipped a back bottom molar tooth. In the past I had a porcelan filling there, and one of the back edges chipped off(actual tooth, not filling). do you think I could get it refilled or do you think I will have to have a crown. I know it is hard for you too know whithout looking at it but just best perception from my discription would be a great help. thank You.
My son had his 4 upper baby teeth removed when he was 2, he is now 4 1/2 and I recently took him for his exam and cleaning. His xrays showed that his upper permanent tooth is coming in sideways. The dentist told me that this is genetic and there is nothing we can do about it until he gets braces. This is not an answer we are willing to accept. Are there any more options for us. Thank you
My 10 year old has an tooth cutting in above an already exsisting tooth below it.It's giving her pain.
I am 40 years old and have always had very healthy teeth (several fillings on the chewing surfaces of molars, but no other dental work ever). In the past few years, I have noticed that my top two front teeth are becoming sort of transparent. Even more recently, the biting surfaces have become soft and indented (not visibly), such that I can stick my fingernail in them. In fact, my fingernail will actually stick for a moment. I go to the dentist every 6 months and he doesn't seem concerned. I am wondering what might be causing these changes, if they are going to worsen and if there is anything I can do to arrest it from worsening. I have thought about asking for sealants, but would they be noticeable due to a color difference? I do not like the appearance of caps or veneers and would only get them as a last resort. Please advise.
Am I better off having dentures put in my mouth immdiately after my teeth are extracted or waiting until the swelling goes down. I have been told that by waiting my face can change shape, if so would temp dentures fix that. However, I've been told that by putting the dentures in immediately after extraction the swelling goes down and dentures don't fit right. This is already scarey enough without worrying about stuff like this. HELP!
My daughter is 6 years old, 7 8 Oct. Her teeth are really close together. She has a cavity on her S tooth in between the teeth. The dentist wants to put a ugly silver crown on it. You can see the tooth when she smiles. I would like a tooth colored crown. I am having a really hard time findng someone to do this on a baby tooth. I am not concerned about the cost. How do I find someone in South Carolina who will do this? and Why don't they do this for children?
my six year old daughter has a yellow spot in the center of both of her two front bottom teeth. what could cause this?

Hey doc, I have a question for you, I have a bump on my jaw bone, it's been there for awhile it is not painful at all but, I'm worried there could be something wrong, it's on the bone, and it's not sticking out pass my skin, but I can feel it when I rub it. Could it be an irregular bone growth, or could it be something worst?
I had a crown placed on a molar that has become infected and needs a root canal. My dentist said the crown ($900) doesnt need to be replaced to do the procedure. Is this proper protocol?
one of my front tooth is hurting really bad first he pain started at the bottom of my mouth and the side of my teeth and now its just the front tooth it hurts for me touch it or bite down or eat what can be the cause of this
My son is 4 years old, he had an abcessed tooth about 5 months ago. I took him to a pediatric dentist who "fixed it" in 30 seconds. Now, I used to be a dental assistant, and I know all decay should have been cleaned out of this tooth before any medication or filling material is placed. He assured me he would be fine, and he was the one with the degree. All he did was looked in the tooth, placed a cotton ball with medication on it in the tooth and made a ball out of composite and shoved it in the tooth with his finger. Never used the high speed, or low speed, to smooth it or anything. As of today all the fillings (3) this dr. has placed has fallen out, and been replaced for the third time. Tonight, this one came out again, and I think the tooth is abcessed again. I have already decided to choose a new ped's dentist, the closest is about 40 miles away, but, should I just have them pull this tooth? Theres not much of it left, it is baby tooth B, and looks very bad at this point like more decay has formed.
my 4 year old daughter has all of a sudden started to complain of her tooth hurting. she brushed=s at least 2 times a day and doesnt really eat a lot of sweets. i have tooth trouble so im wondering if shes just saying it because she hears me say it or if theres really a problem. what should i do?
My son (21 months old) has what the dentist called baseline stain. Is this common in young children and will it continue with his adult teeth. We brush twice a day with an Oral B toothbrush. The only way the stain is removed is by the dentist. Any suggestions as to how to keep his little choppers whiter? I hate how his teeth look!!
Hi Dr Williams, I just received a partial denture (about a week or so) and it seems as though it doesn't fit. There is a significan gap between the roof of my mouth and the denture itself. So much in fact, it irritates my toungue and significant amounts of liquid and food get stuck in-between the roof and the denture. How is a partial denture suppose to properly fit? I understand the necessity to "get used" to it, but really, if instinctively one knows it doesn't fit correctly, what to do? Thanks so much. I have a window to fix this with my dentist, however, she's not cooperative and is in denial that a possible error was made in the fitting. Please advise. Thank you so much, Lisa Anderson

My gums have been bleeding constantly throughout the day and night since about May 16,2007. Sometimes I'm in alot of pain other times it just bleeds without any pain at all. Please tell me what i should do. Its getting worse and i cant handle the pain anymore!
My 4 yr old just went to the dentist today. We were told that she is brushing perfect and that her teeth are white and clean. Although she brushes good and has a clean white smile she has a small cavity on the upper left back teeth. So, the dentist want's to fill it. As a first time mother I am worried. He said it is her baby teeth and that the filling is to protect from further problems. She doesn't have any other problems than that. Like I said, her brushing and flossing is perfect. He said that her teeth doesn't need much cleaning from them. Should I be worried?? I guess I am worried because my niece at 3 yrs of age had to have major work done with all of her front teeth with caps. Please assure me that it is something I am being overly protective about.
my 4 year old son went to the dentist and was told he needed fillings i am just wondering how they are going to do that with him being so young
What do you feel the best treatment is for decalcified teeth? My son had his braces removed yesterday and there are some white spots. Thank you.
I just had two broken molars pulled. In the hole where the root was there is white solid looking stuff. What is that? I cleaned some of it out but it won't all come out. Should I leave it alone. I just had the teeth pulled 3 days ago
My daughters is 2 1/2 yrs old and her top right tooth has turned dark after several falls she had taken a few months ago is there anything that I can do for her tooth to be restored or would it need to be removed.
I had my wisdom teeth (1 lower and 1 upper) taken out a week ago, and my bottom lip, lower teeth, and jaw are still numb. Can you tell me why? The oral surgeon said he did not hit a nerve, did not even see one during surgery. How do you explain? Thanks.
Hi Doctor, My dentist gave me pencillin vk 500 mg for my wisdom teeth. Few days later i was in the emergency room with a very bad ear ache(Swimmer's Ear). They then put me on neomycin and polmyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone drops and tramadol for the pain. I went to my oral surgeon and he put me on hydocondone because the pain worsen and i couldn't open my jaw. I was then back to my doctor again for my ear and he put me on cipro instead of my penvk and zolene Hc instead of my first drops i had. i only had one day left with my penvk (4 pills) i need to know if all this medicine is dangerous or harming for me because i am getting my wisdom teeth cut out in a month? Im just scared something bad might happen to me. (im only 20 yrs. if it helps to answer?) Thanks soo much Kelly
Will an onlay protect a tooth that had a root canal? I was told a tooth with a root canal will dry out and crack with out a crown. Will the tooth between the onlay and the gum line dry out and become brittle?
My daughter will be 11yrs. old in October and today went to see the dentist for her annual visit. He showed me her x-rays and her adult teeth are coming in smaller than her baby teeth are. He doesn't know why and I asked him to research to see if it is because she has been taking dexedrine for 3 years for ADHD. Have you seen this before and do you have any suggestions? She is tiny and doesn't eat very much, needless to say I am quite concerned.
my spacer came out and I put it back in but I think I out it in too far what will happen if I did. I can't see the bottom of the rubberband and my dentist is closed today. please answer asap thank you for your time!!!
I have peridontal desease, but i always go for my deep cleanings every 3 or 4 months,My problem now is that i have an abscess in my gum on top of one of my molars the doc saw it in the x-ray so he began draining it and prescription of antibiotics....4 months have been by...and more x-rays, more scaling and rooting on that molar, it's not loose...he said that there is no cavity or bone loose it's ok so the doctor said their is no need for a root canal and that the infeccion is in my gum and it's cronical doesn't go away with anything...i'm not in pain, but i can't chew hard things on that side and also have a lot of sensitivity to hot and cold, and my gum in the inside is recessed so my root is exposed and i have a strange flavor in my mouth, i think it's because it still drains, i'm going every 2 weeks to the dentist but i still have this problem, what should i do? should i have it pulled out? thank you for your time and consideration....JC
I GET THIS PAIN IN MY MOLAR EVERYTIME I EAT SOMETHING SWEET LIKE CARMEL, CHOCOLATE, BUTTERCREAM FROSTING ETC; WHAT COULD THIS BE? AND ALSO I HAVE A RED DOT ON THE ROOF BACK OF MY MOUTH THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR THREE DAYS WHAT COULD IT BE?
my front gums hurt and they are red what should i do?
My 7-year old grandson had a bike accident yesterday, and broke both top front teeth. One tooth was broken and knocked off leaving only about one millimeter of tooth from his gum, and the other was chipped off at the corner. My son found the chipped teeth, and kept them in saline solution until his dentist could see him early this morning. He bonded the broken teeth, and told my son to watch them closely over the next few months because they could have nerve damage and need root canals or removal. I'm just wondering what the boy should expect in the near and far future? If there isn't nerve damage, what can be expected from the bonding? How long does the material usually last, and how strong is it? Is it possibly a permanent solution? Also, what do you think is his best option if the tooth dies? Money is no object as I will pay whatever is reasonable for the best outcome. Thank you for any advice that you can give me.
i went to the dentist has half of my crown came of apparantly ihave to see a dental hygenist because i also have e gum infection i have a heart murmur the dentist told me to take antibiotics an hour before the visit why is this

I went to my new Dentist. Had exam, measured pockets, x-rays. Most pockets were 2-3. Then off to the coordinator to discuss treatment plan. I am there to have a Post/build-up on a recent root canal on a badly broken molar. Instead she said I cannot have any work done until I have a Periodental cleaning and maintenance?? How could cleaning take 100% presidence over finishing a root canal and getting a crown put on.. by the way I have an HMO dental plan.
How can I keep crowns and veneers really white cleaning options
Hello Dr. Williams This will be a two part question. Question 1 I had my first cavities around 25 years old and had them filled that same year. Since then I have become really sensitive to cold/sweets what could this be from?? Is there anyway to stop this from happening?? Question 2 Every now and then I have swelling on both sides of my face right under my ear and under the jawbone. I just wake up with it no rhyme or reason for it. It hurts VERY badly and I can’t even eat when it happens. It keeps occurring more and more frequent. I was told once before it was my salivary glands and to just eat sour candy and use warm compresses. I tired that and the swelling doesn’t seem to want to disappear. What could this really be?? Have you heard of anyone 26 with this sort of issue??
how do i whiten my porcelian fillings
I had #31 and #32 pulled for severe abscess 10 weeks ago. Now, I have a long thin line of bone coming out of the gum. This is very sore and erupted like cutting a tooth. I went to my dentist and he "ground" this off. It has been very slow in healing and pretty painful. How long will this go on and is there anything I can do the speed the healing process? Also, will this continue to "come out"? Thank you.
Hey, when i bite down, my cheek bone is in pain. Could that be from a toothache, or is it something with my cheek bone?
Hello! I had 9 small cavaties, 3 on top, both left and right, 2 lower right and 1 lower left. My dentist drilled all 9 at once and put in white fillings, compsite resin i believe. Since then Ive been in extreme amount of pain. I already went in twice and he says he doesnt see anything and just files the resin down more. I cant sleep at night. I cant chew, hot and cold send me reeling. The back of my neck tightens up, my jaw tightens up and its very painful. I get woken up at nite from the pain and I get horrible migrains. This pain comes even if im just sitting there doing nothing. Im a pretty strong girl, but 2 weeks of constant pain has to stop. WHat can I tell my doctor to look for or what do you think would be causing this. Thanks
My 6yr old daughter has had her permanenant front teeth for a few months now. They both have a vertical yellowish stripe dicoloration. My dentist said it was because of antibiotics given when the teeth were forming. She also had 4 cavities that are being treated with laser and filled. I was told and shown that the molars coming in are also discolored and her enamel is weak. I would appreciate any insights and thought on this. Thank you

my bottom wisdom teeth have pushed my bottom canine tooth very close to the front of my mouth, my upper left canine tooth is up to high and doesnt fit well with the other teeth, is there a way to fix my smile without having to use braces,
This past May, my husband chipped one of his new composite fillings from last October. Our new dentist suggested a porcelain onlay, which my husband agreed to. It is tooth #29, and covers the top and inside of the tooth. This onlay has come off three times since May. I asked if there was a different cement we could try, but the dentist did not seem to think that was the problem. The last time it came off, we thought it was because his night guard was pressing on it. The night guard was filed down, and his bite was adjusted. We thought we had solved the problem. Now, three weeks later, off it pops again!! Question is, should we allow the dentist to remove more of the tooth to make a larger onlay....or possibly even a crown....or should we be looking for another dentist????? Thanks, Diane Harrell
My sister in law is diabetic. Is there any problem in having a tooth pulled

Hi. I had a bootom molar pulled on Thursday. I am still suffering pain and now the hole keeps filling up with this whitish and light browning stinky stuff that comes off when i use saline solution. Do i have a dry socket or an infection?
is there any risks if while having root canal treatment the drill breaks and leaves bits inside my tooth
Goodmorning Sir, My question or concern is: I have bad teeth, I've had a whole mouth e-ray done, last January. It has been brought to my attention that all my teeth are bad, due to my prior use of medication; oral paxil. So, my questions to you are: 1. Have you ever heard of this before? 2. Is there anything I can do about this,re;request compensation or help in regards to replacement of my bad teeth "dentures" from the rx company. 3. your recommendation remove the teeth that need to be removed at this time or remove all of them. Thank you for reading, and I am looking forward to your response and feedback. Sincerely, Lisa M. Bright lmib2424@aol.com
Recently during a meal, my 6 yr old complained that she had a piece of chicken stuck between her teeth and she needed a toothpick. I looked and her gum was bleeding slightly and I saw what turned out to be a tiny piece of her molar. This is a baby tooth and when I took her to the dentist they removed the tiny piece but said her molar was indeed cracked. They thought they could get away with a crown but with the crack all the way through they want to pull it. but this molar won't be replaced with her adult tooth until she's closer to 11 or 12. They said they'd give her a spacer until her adult molar came in. Is it really necessary to pull the tooth?
About a month I had a bad toothache from my back molar that lasted about 3 days. Then the pain went away and now I noticed I have a bump/lump right below the gumline directly above the tooth that was hurting. I can't see the bump but can feel it with my finger. Do you think I have an infection from the tooth that I was having problems with?
one of my lower right molers had the nerve taken out of it twenty something years ago, and then had a root canal done. in the recet years the tooth broke off to gum level and has ot bothered me, now i believe it is abcessed, the gums are swollen under the tooth and there is pain, i know the tooth needs to be removed, will a regular dentist be able to do this or do i need to call someone else, am i in any danger
Yesterday I was put under conscouise sedation and had 22 teeth removed. all of them were broken or factured including 4 broken off at the gum. I had a temp. Denture made but I am unable to wear them. My gums are very very swollen and extremely sore. please give me some tips and suggestions on what I can do to reduce the swelling of my gums. thank you
A few years ago, I went to the dentist and they said I had a cavity starting to form and they were just going to drill a small hole in the tooth to open it up and not fill it. It is really sharp and i tend to bite my tongue, but I am used to this. The problem is recently the tooth (a top right molar) is starting to hurt. I do believe that it is giving me headaches (the back right of my head). I havent been to the dentist since. I also recieved a tiny chip in one of my front teeth from getting elbowed in the face during basketball. It didnt hurt so I never went to get it fixed. My teeth are normally close to perfect which is why I havent went to the dentist in so long, I am 19. The next available dentist appointment is in November, but they have walk-ins for emergencies. The pain in my tooth sometimes goes away, but would it be considered an emergency or should I just wait? Also, I read another post about someone chewing on the side of their cheek. I do that ALL of the time, when I am mad, nervous, scared, etc. and I was wondering if that was really bad? I also frequently get canker sores on the tip of my tongue and on the bottom of it and they are really painful but go away in a few days. Is it because of stress? Thank you so much for the feedback.
i pull a tooth and it make face my swollen what do to get it down what can i use,its been a week now and still sweell
There are several factors in my life that could affect my mouth and teeth. I'm trying to determine which factor is causing ulcers and lie bumps. I had a moler removed last month. As usual, I developed a dry socket, because I suck my teeth. I've dealt with dry sockets before and never had these problems, so I doubt it is the cause. Could be attributing. On the inside of the gum where the tooth was pulled, there is a pimple. It's not really a pimple, but it is a bump. I have an ulcer on the side of my tongue at the spot that touches the bump. I have an ulcer on the inside of my bottom lip. I have little white bumps all over my tongue. I have dry mouth, really bad, and I work in an environment where it isn't convenient to keep something to drink close by. I origionally thought it was caused by peppermint, which I used to combat the dry mouth. I stopped eating peppermint shortly after having the tooth pulled, and the problem isn't improving. Stress could be a factor. I don't have stress; not in my nature. But my husband is always stressed and sometimes, you can feel it in the air. I have fibromylgia and take elival. I stopped taking Lyrica a couple of weeks ago. I thought that was the problem, but apparently not. I doubt that the elival is the cause, since I've been taking it for several months. My hot flashes have become more frequent, too. I'm sure that could contribute to the problem. Any ideas on what is causing my problem or how to fix it? If it doesn't repair itself soon, should I see my dentist or doctor?
What is the best treatment after a root canal fails to clear up a low-grade infection first indicated by an abscess drain in the form of a small skin "bubble" high up on the gum line (no pain of any kind)? A root canal was the treatment response when the "bubble" was discovered during a hygiene check/confirmed by x-ray.
I just recently started having pain with my lower partial on my right side. The pain is where the partial attaches to the precision attachments and the right partial tooth next to it, Why is this? Also when I eat the lower partial slips and I have to push it down. Do I need an adjustment? I just got this lower partial 10 months ago. I even hurts when I yawn. I think that right tooth may be pressing up against the precision attachment, but I'am not sure. Please advise. I just paid alot of money for this partial $2500.00, are dentists insured with the labs who make these partials, so the patient doesn't have to pay again?
I am 38 weeks pregnant, and have had the worst tooth pain in one of my molars for about 4 days. It hurts to slightly touch on my top tooth, and chewing on it is out of the question. I have noticed that my glands on the same side are sore, but not too swollen. Is it o.k. that I get an x-ray and or take anitibiotics if an extraction or root canal are needed? I hear tetracycline should not be taken anytime during pregnancy. Is there another that would eliminate any infection as well. My C-section is scheduled for 6 days from today.. Thank you for any input you might have!
I had a lower partial denture(3teeth right/3 teeth left) made 8 month's ago to replace an old one. I just recently started getting throbbing pain in my lower right jaw. I have no cavities as far as I know. What could be the cause of have throbbing pain in my jaw? The pain is right under My tooth that the partial clasps connect to, and the first tooth right next to it. It hurts when I chew on anything, whether it be hard or soft. Do you think that I might just need a partial realignment, or maybe replace the right metal clasp? Please advise, and let me know what you think it might be. Note: If I take Aspirin and put anbesol around the area, the pain goes away for awhile, and then when I have something to eat, it starts all over again, unless it is very soft foods. Thank You, Marie
A couple of weeks ago, I had 3 cavities filled. 2 upper left molars and 1 bottom back molar filled. The bottom tooth that was filled had a old filling and was getting refilled. Before the dentist, he gave me several shots inside the left side of my mouth which really hurt. When I went in, I had no pain and when I left I have had pain around the clock requiring me to take ibuprofen. The pain radiates through my jaw, teeth, and gum. I went back to him and he told me to expect to be pain for several more weeks. He said if the pain doesn't go away I will need a root canal. It would of been better if I had never gotten the procedure done. Please give me your opinion. Angry and in Pain, Juliet Wall
My second tooth from the back on the bottom is cracked in half. I wanted to know is it possible to get a root canal and have a new tooth built or get a crown?
Hi. I was having a procedure today. After being injected with "novacain" or numbing agent I has what the dentist called a "seizure" My body started shaking violently starting at the neck throughout my body. I was able to talk, did not pass out. This episode lasted approximatly 4-5 minutes, whereas we were able to continue with my procedure. What could have caused this?
my son has silver caps on his front teeth with white finish on the fronts. they are chipping though and one of the teeth is 90% silver now. is there a way to paint the finish back on without having to replace the cap?? Thankyou
I had a wisdom tooth removed 9/4/07. Last week I noticed a small bump on the inside of my jaw and it feels hard, like bone. I called the dentist's office and they said it's probably a bone chip and to rub it with my finger or tongue and it will eventually work itself through. How long does this take to come out or is there a quicker way to do it? Thanks.
Hello Dr. Williams. My son is almost 11 months old and his 7th tooth has just come through. It is our far enough for me to tell that it is crooked. It is not completely sideways, but pretty close. It is turned inwards, towards his middle teeth. He has three on bottom now and four on top. My concern is that it will stay that way until he looses his baby teeth and may affect his adult teeth as well. Does it have anything to do with him using a pacifier? As a child, I had problems with my teeth and had two teeth stuck in the roof of my mouth that had to be cut out in surgery and then brought down with braces. I just want to try and be ahead of the game if my son is going to have the same sort of problems. Thank you for your help!
I had a cavity that was filled and the tooth crowned. However, the tooth still continue to decayed and they just went in to fill the tooth again. It has been 3 weeks and I am unable to open my mouth. My jaw hurts on the left side every time I open my mouth more than an inch. It hurts more to open it to chew than just attempting to open it. I have tried manually to stretch my mouth open with my fingers but the pain is unbearable. My pain has begun to move to my inner ear. Is this lock jaw? If so, how do I relieve the pain. If not, what else could it be. My tooth does not hurt.
my son is 13 years old and has been seeing an orthodontist for 2 years he has upper and lower braces and a distal jet in his upper roof of his mouth everytime he goes to the orthodontist to have an adjustment approximately 3-5 min, into his treatment his mouth gets swollen his lips get swollen and they get really sore looking the lips crack on the sides and his nose on the inside of the nose gets sores as well i went to his docter and they theyve checked for a latex allergy it came back negative i doesent happen to him at his reg dentist or anywhere else his docter feels hes allergic to something there using the only other thing i can think of is there instruments sterlization solution or there soaps they clean ther hands with ive watched other children get done there as well and when they leave there mouth looks fine i dont know what could be causing this it takes him two weeks for his mouth to improve i gave him benadryl and it helped some his doc says it got to be something hes allergic to do you have any idea what it could be or do i need to change dentists.
Six months ago I had my 6 upper and 6 Lower front teeth replaced with beautiful all porcelain crowns that look real and I couldnt have been happier with the work. Now however, when I floss the upper and lower are of my new crowns I notice a strong "bad breath" odor the emanates from in between my nwe crowns. I floss and brush after every meal. Use a non-alcholic mouthwash and eat lots of health green foods. Is the smell coming from the bridge betwwen my natural tooth and the crown beneath the gumline? I spent a lot of money on this restoration but wouldnt have done so if the end cost was chronic halitosis. Any advice?
They are going to put veneers on the 2 front teeth.. some implants on the sides and a precision partial to fill in the remaining lost teeth...Will all these different kind of teeth look OK together??? And last ?..Does a precision partial have to be made with metal instead of plastic like I have??? Can it too be made with plastic????? Many thanks
I just had my wisdom teeth pulled about a week ago, and today I went home from school and one of my gums is completly ripped away from my tooth! But it does not hurt at all!!! WHAT DO I DO!!!!! h\HELP ME!
Hi Doc, I am 40 years old. I go to the dentist regularly, every 6 months. I have only had two cavities in my whole life. I take after my mother with very strong enamel. On my last visit, I was informed that my x-rays showed a cavity on my upper left wisdom tooth. ( all of my wisdom teeth are fully in, and I've never had a problem). He filled the tooth, with great difficulty, due to the location, and also told me that he exposed the nerve. ( he offered to pull it, but being a total chicken, I said, NO WAY!). Now my tooth has some pain. Not bad, just a dull ache now and then. Sometimes the dull ache spreads to several surrounding upper teeth as well. It can be fine for a few weeks, then throb for a couple of days. I know the doctor told me that my roots somewhat "cross" each other, so if I were to have the tooth removed, I would need to go to an oral surgeon. My question is, Do you think the pain will eventually totally go away? Could it continue to come and go? Could this dull pain mean an infection? With my age, could removing the wisdom tooth be very painful and create more problems in the long run? Maybe I should just live with it and see how it goes. Yes, I am a big chicken, but I am hoping maybe the root will just die on its own and I can keep the tooth. I am also wondering, maybe it is self healing itself, and in a few months, I will no longer have any dull pain. Is this possible? What do you think? Thanks for your help. Kristy
I had all of my top teeth pulled how long dose it take to heal good ? I have so my hard bumps in my gums and they make it hurt really bad when i put the denture in .
Hi. I have had very bad teeth since I was about 10 years old. At 16 I had a root canal done on the tooth next to my front teeth on my right side. A day after I woke up and my face had swollen to the point that I couldn't open my eye, I looked like a mutant. The dentist ended up lancing my gum and a nasty tasty fluid rushed out of my face. Now I am 20 and the same tooth but on the opposite side is giving me the same type of pain. My face is now starting to swell and turn red. What is going on with this? I don't understand how to fix it and I am scared to death to have another root canal. Any suggestions? And one more thing. When I get my front teeth worked on the dentist can never fully numb them. My back teeth always numb completely and I can't feel a thing. But my front teeth never numb. Is there something wrong with me? I need work done on them but I don't want to because of the pain. I have seen multiple dentists and none of them can get the teeth numb. PLEASE HELP!
My tori have recently become irritated. What can I do to relieve the pain and sensitivity that I feel and have felt for the past few days.I believe they became traumatized when I had general anesth.a couple weeks ago. Will gargling with salt solution help and how long does it usually take for resolve. This is more painful then my post-op surgery.
1. do porcelin crowns & veneers ever stain or tarnish? 2. i just had 6 crowns & veneers placed on my front teeth, I felt as soon as i left the dentist's office i have instant sinus issues. would a procedure like this cause me to have sinus problems?
What would make the end of someone's tongue turn black? the only other symptom is some slight dizziness.
My son has just turned 8. When he was 3, he had 8 teeth out under general anathestic due to the teeth rotting. About 6 of his top front teeth were taken out, but this was 5 years ago, there is still no sign of his permanent teeth coming through. I know there are no guidelines for his teeth to come down and the dentist told us that he will probably have to have braces, but I'm just concerned that there are no sign of these teeth. Is this normal? A very concerned parent
My 62 year old brother has a dental dilema: He regularly has dental check-ups/cleaning etc. He has been told by his dentist, that the enamel is rotting under the gum line. It has attacked two teeth. No reason was given for this. Please, what can you share with me regarding the problem? Thanking you in advance.
I have to have bonding on my teeth and I have been to dentist three time to have deep cleaning before he can put bondings and still he has not done since last six months or so, that is hwy I want to know how many time do I need cleaning before have bonding on my teeth?
I had porcelain veneers placed on my four front teeth twenty years ago to close gaps between them after my braces were taken off. My gums have receeded from the veneers and one of my teeth has shifted a little. My dentist now is recommending laser gum resurfacing, shaving down the croked tooth and replacing all veneers with caps. I don't quite understand why I can't just replace the veneers with new veneers. Im feeling nervous because of everything I have read about how much of your natual tooth must be removed for caps.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and need a bridge done. Is it safe?
Dr. Williams, I had a filling done on tooth #14. As soon as the novacaine wore off this tooth began to hurt. I called the dentist and they said that this was normal. The next day it hurt worse, I called the dentist and insisted to be seen. Two days later the filling fell out and even more pain occured. I could not be seen for 2 days. Went I went in to the dentist just 3 days after the filling came out, gum tissue had grown in that space and told me they thought their was an abcess. I recieved an oral rinse antibiotic and was told everything would be fine to refill the tooth in 3 days. I went back in and there was even more tissue there now and it hurts like crazy. I saw a periodonist and was told I need gum surgery. Now I just found out I need a root canal. How could, what was supposed to be a small filling, fall out and lead to gum surgery and a root canal? What would have caused gum tissue to grew in the space the filling was in just 3 days? Thank you
My 8 year old son has experienced tooth staining (brownish buildup along the base and sides of the teeth) since he was around 4. He brushes twice daily and we visit the dentist regularly and she says it is not decay. They are able to scrape and use a water-pik device to remove most of it. In between visits, however, it really builds up and become unsightly. He drinks water from our filtered refrig. system. Does this filter out fluoride and could that be the problem? My daughter has it as well, but milder. My husband and I are fine. They do not drink any staining-type beverages and our dentist has been puzzled as to the cause. I'm so concerned that he will be picked on at school.
Will having my remaing teeth pulled stop anymore bone loss? I would prefer to just have them pulled but worry about the long term .I only have 18 teeth left now.
I am experiencing pain on the left side of my mouth with my top and bottom back teeth (feels like premolar and molars). I had a filling fall out of one of my top teeth a month ago and experienced NO pain. Now i have been in severe pain, top and bottom, and I do not think its related to the lost filling because it feels like 4 or 5 teeth. The pain in my teeth makes the whole left side of my head hurt. I constanly bite down on my top and bottom back teeth because clenching the teeth are a BIG relief. Cold liquid is very painful, sometimes I don't even want to talk because of the pain. I have several fillings (4 years olds) around the area in which I am expierencing pain. Do you have any advice of what might be going on?
i had an abseth tooth, went to emergency room they drained it and put me on meds. its gone now. Question will it come back or should i have it pulled out. if so can it spread to another tooth.
i have this hard light brown substance only on the front of my bottom teeth. when i eat an apple or something it tends to lighten or go away the n comes back after a while. Also when i use a tooth pick like cleaning tool my gums tend to start bleeding easily.
My six year old is missing her top front teeth (but hasn't lost the incisors yet). At her last check up, our dentist said she needed to have a frenectomy immediately before her adult teeth come in. I've read conflicting information about the appropriate age/time for a frenectomy (some sites say it shouldn't be done before the age of 10 or 11). What would you recommend?
I have what I think to be an absest lower tooth. The left side of my jaw is swollen and my face is puffed out. I have no insurance and was wondering what I can do at home to eliminate this problem.
My problem started when my dentist, when I was about 30, told me I needed to have a deep root scaling, ever since that day I have had nothing but trouble, with bleeding and soreness and sensativity to hot, cold and sweets. I am now 54 years old, and to my misfortune, had to have my upper teeth removed because of Peridontitus about a week ago. Before all of this happened I brushed at least 2 times a day I flossed nothing worked .My parents and my sisters all had or have this problem...My teeth were fine, just the gums had problems..I now have a "plate" and for the FIRST time in 15 years am able to smile without embarrassment, which I am very grateful for. I received very little support from both the dentist and my perodontist concerning this appliance, which was a total of about 4500.00 between both of them and do not really know what to do, or how to take care of it. I am interested (if I can ever afford it) about a permanent denture. I asked my dentist about if there was something else available besides this "plate" and his reply was " yes, it is all in how much money you want to spend". I cannot chew much, but I was told that it would get better and that they fit better than they normally do and pretty much that is the way it is, so live with it...I got nothing as far as the "care and feeding" of this appliance. Everybody is telling me it will get better, but right now this is really tough to go through. The emotional part is the hardest. I took a before the extractions and an after picture and the difference is huge, I went into tears when I saw it, I could actually smile again. When it depresses me I just look at the pictures and I feel better. Can you give me any advice on this appliance and what other options I can explore to eliminate this plate. Sincerely, Rob
I recently had 22 teeth removed and a set of temparary teeth put in. It's been 3 days and I am still swollen and I know this is normal but the space between my nose and upper lip looks like a bee stung me and I still talk like I have a mouth full of cotton is this normal and should I ask my dentist to remove some bone or gum to reduce the swollen upper lip look?
My 8 year old daughter hit her front tooth and it is loose What should I do should we see the doctor ?
My 3 yr old daughter has a very large bump above her front top tooth. I asked her if she hurt it and she said yes with the toothbrush. Will this go away or does she need to see a dentist? It almost looks like a blister to me.

i just had my 2 front bottom teeth pulled i been fited with a plastic partial denture and it wont stay in place it moves when ever i eat drink move my tongue i been told by my kids the teeth lift up when im talking is it suposed to be like that? or should it be firmly in my mouth? and is there any thing else i could have to replace my teeth ? my dentist said i cant have to screw in ones on NHS is that true ? if so how much would it cost me ?
My 12 year old son has an adult tooth that has grown through his baby tooth and split the baby tooth in two. One piece of the baby tooth has come out but the other is still very attached to his gum and adult tooth. I plan to take him to the dentist this week however I was wondering what damage if any this may have caused.

How long does a wisdom tooth take to fullly erupt right now i have one that has partilly erupted on the bottom and it looks like there's enought space to fully come in.
Hello Dr. williams. My father just had complete upper and lower dentures placed. He is currently complaining that the bottom dentures are too loose. So loose that when he tries to talk the bottom does not stay in place and wants to come out. He spoke with his dentist and he said this is normal. Is it really normal? If so what can he do to resolve this problem. Also, how are dentures really suppose to feel? My father thinks something is not right with them because everyone he knows with dentures doesn't seem to have any problems with them.

I have "moderate to advanced periodontal disease". I am currently getting scaling done every three months. However, the local periodontal specialist told me I need gum flap surgery. I am unable to pay for this and my insurance is not accepted by anyone who offers this surgery. Is the surgery absolutely necessary for the treatment of this disease or is it ok for me just to continue the scaling? I have areas of visible receding gums and I'm 29 years old. Thanks!
I have blueness under my gumline or it is my gum - can these be fixed? What is it? Or did my gum recede and i'm seeing the nerve or blueness?
I am getting my braces off tomorrow morning. I am getting a permanent retainer on the bottom teeth and a removeable retainer on the top teeth. I wanted a permanent retainer on the top teeth but my orthodontist said that I couldn't have one because your top teeth go over you bottom teeth. I was just wondering if I get to the point where I can't stand the removeable retainer can I beg him to give me the permanent one or will I just have to suffer with the removeable one? And do either kind of retainer hurt?
my 10 year old gum is growing over her molars? Both sides? I'v never seen anything like it do you know why this could be happening?

Ihad a really bad absessed tooth. I was sent home with instructions to take amoxicillin for two days then come back for a root canal. before I could make it back for the root canal my cheek and jaw area swoll up a lot, so I was send to an endodotist who only did the beginnings of a root canal; he pack the infected tooth with some type of material and sent me on to an oral surgon to surgically remove the infection from my cheeck and jaw area. I have instructions to return to the endodontist in a month to complete the root canal. I am on endamycin now, and four days after the oral procedure, the swellings has gone down a lot, but I still have a large hard lump on my face in the jawbone area. Is this normal? The oral surgon wants to see me again in a week; he says that if the swelling does not go down, the the tooth should be removed, and an implant done. The endodontist wants to try to save the tooth. What should I do?
Is it normal to see the grey metal ring around the bottom of your newly installed porcelin crown? I can feel it at the base of the tooth and I can also taste metal in my mouth. Is this normal.
I have periodontist disease. I got braces about 6 months ago.My 4 front teeth are at risk of falling out.Lately,i have notice 2 of my front teeth on the side I sleep is loose. When I brust I can see them move back and forth. Is this something I should be worried about? I know they said there will be some movement w the braces, but should it be enough for me to see while brushing? Also, if they do fall out is there something I can do to continue with the braces.Such as having false teeth put in with the braces or will my teeth be stuck in the position they are now forever?
Last November I woke up feeling nausous and had extreme headaches, which turned into shoulder aches, body aches. The nausea/headaches were debilitating. Saw the dentist, had an abscessed upper back tooth (wisdom teeth have been removed long ago) then a root canal. Dentist said I had bone infection so recommended Periodontist. Had perio apptmt.in January. Then had the crown put on Feb 07. I still had very tender gum/tooth area right after. Dentist said it was healing. Sept 12 I woke up feeling exactly as I did last Nov. I'm feeling headache/pressure and nausea constantly, back of neck sore, very lethargic. I went to a new dentist for an emergency apptmt 2 weeks ago and he x-rayed the 2 back upper teeth where I had root canals and since no infection showed up, he said I'm flossing too hard(I haven't even been flossing between those 2 teeth because it's too sensitive)and sent me on my way. I went to my M.D. and they checked my nose and left ear visually and gave me some allergy spray. I told them I had been taking Amoxicillin I had previously been on so they told me to continue. It ran out Sept 26 and now I'm feeling nauseous and left ear burning inside, headache, neckache. Do you think there's infection still in the bone and it didn't show up due to the Amoxicillin? My whole head feels heavy/pressure and left ear feels like it's numb or has cotton in it. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
My 5 yr old has a small clear white filled bump on his gum above the top front left tooth, I have noticed it come and go since he was 3. It will come and go. Also his top lip keeps swelling, it gets very big even causing swelling in his nose. I have just now realized last night the correlation between the two. His lip started swelling thursday, was very swollen Friday morning, and is still puffy today (Monday). Last night while brushing his teeth, we noticed some bleeding, so I looked under his top lip and there was the bump back, plus he has some new spots that looked very irritated. What is this? I have showed his pediatrician, and have told the lady who cleans his teeth, but of course it wasn't there last time he went to the dentist. But again, I am just now putting the swelling and bump together, I have always treated the swelling as allergies with Benedryl and Zyrtec.
My husband just stopped chewing and his tongue goes numb through out the day. Is that normal?
Is it safe to get a tooh pulled while pregnant?
My daughter is 7years old. Back in 2004 my daughter had 3 cavities. , and .About 6 months ago she had her annual cleaning. They said she had a cavity on 2nd biscupid. They wanted to do like a crown/rootcanal. Is that nessacary. Can't she just get it drilled and filled. I had the money to take care of this so I've been making sure she's brushing/fluoride rinsing her mouth.
I have just had my upper teeth extracted for dentures on the first of October. I went back on the third and my Dentist readjusted them to fit my mouth better, however, when I took them out that night because they were making my gums itch badly, After a few hours, I tried to put them back in again and it hurt so badly I was on my knees, crying. The next day I went to the store to buy some gum orajel and when I put my teeth back in, the pain almost made me pass out and throw up. I still can't put my teeth back in because the dentures rip open my gums. My appointment isn't untill the 10th, but I'm afraid that waiting to long is just going to make it worse...I did call his office and they told me that no matter what, I needed to get them back in and wear them for a full week. I just can't take the pain, it makes me feel sick and almost pass out. What can I do to help the swelling go down faster and make it to where my dentures won't hurt when I put them in. Thank you for any and all help.
i have a bump on my lower lip and my doctor doesnt know what it is. so she is sending my to see a dentist. But i wanted to ask you anyway. it looks like a wort. is that posible to get a wort on your lip? and if it is how do you get rid of it? or if its not what do you think it is? hope to hear from you soon. -Brian

I had sealants put on all my molars when I was a kid. It has definitely been long enough for them to wear off and a couple days ago I noticed a big, deep hole in the side of my tooth. It looks it's from the sealant popping off. It doesn't hurt, but I won't be able to get to the dentist for over 2 weeks. Is there anything I can do to protect it until I get it fixed? What will fixing it entail?
I am 16 and recently had my braces removed. Prior to the braces, I had fallen and struck my front upper tooth. A root canal was done. Now since the braces are off, my tooth is discolored. I have contacted a few dentists and am getting conflicting advice. One said I could have an internal bleaching, but would have to have another root canal on the tooth. Another said no I could not do the internal bleaching, I would have to have a crown. I do not want to get a crown if its not totally necessary. Couldn't I get a resin bonding or veneer? I have no pain or gum problems. Thanks.
All of a sudden my child's front left baby tooth is turning brown. My son is 4 years old. What causes that?? and is it dangerous?
I have an abcessed molar that I'm seeing the dentist about removing. My other dentist in the last place I lived told me it was too far gone to fix with a root canal. My question is is it ok to have the molar removed and then come back a couple of months down the road to have an implant put in? My insurance won't cover the $1200 its going to cost to get it done and I don't have the funds to pay for that plus the oral surgery I need for my wisdom teeth.
I had my first fillings 3 months ago when I was pregnant. 2 of them were that strange metal stuff that looks like gray clay in my lower right molars (both). Those 2 teeth and the upper right molars now have dull but painfull toothaches (that travels sometimes) and have for 2 days. They are no longer senstive to hot/cold or pressure. What could this be? I'm worried that she may not have gotten all of the caries and maybe it's an absessing. Or could this be just the fillings settling? Thank you.
My daughter has bad swelling on her left cheek and complains that the gum behind her 2 molar hurts. Upon looking at her gum I noticed a piece of tooth peircing through the skin. She is only 7 yrs old, can this be a wisdom tooth?
I have 2 large mandibular tori that need to be removed , they are effecting my speech. I have put this off for years due to fear. How bad is this surgery ? Thanks
Is there any recorded history of a person being allergic to porceline, as used in a crown?
I had a root canal performed 6 years ago on my front upper tooth. The bottom of that tooth got recently swollen into a gumboil. Fever but no toothache. With antibiotics, the gumboil has gone giving off pus and blood. Currently, I am fine. Will the infection come back at me again? Can antibiotics cure that tooth's infection or a surgery like apecoectomy (removing the root and draining the infection) would be necessary to cure it? Thanks in advance, Adi
just had #31 and 32 removed five days ago. was wondering why there were stiches in my cheek at the top of my mouth when the teeth pulled are on the bottom. a
i asked u a question yesterday and since u answered so quick, i would like to ask another. i had #31 anf #32 pulled. now i have what look like extra gums or i dont know what covering the tooth next the one that got pulled. could it be a scab? ive had teeth pulled before and never seen this. thanks
Jan 5th 07 had a filling replaced it was ok for 2 weeks than I started having pain. I ended up having a root canal (eyetooth) that failed and had to have a apico procedure. The apico also failed and I had to have it redone. The site of the surgery never healed(very red) and was still in pain. Finally had the tooth pulled Aug 7th and I'm still in pain. I've had a temp bridge ever since the surgery and it has had to be redone. Now I'm going in for a biopsy today and I'm really concerned that the site will never heal.Since I had the temp bridge redone I'm having alot of pain around the gum tissue. Please advise, thank you
Dear Doctor, I have had 16 porcelin crowns done within the last 2 years. I love them because they are white and they look so much better than my other teeth. I had the crowns due to large old silver fillings and my front teeth had many white fillings. My problem is that my dentist and hygienist say that my porcelins are staining. My hygienist stop me from drinking green tea and says I should always brush after coffee. I will not give up the coffee. I take care of my new teeth. I brush several times a day and floss each day. I also go twice a year for regular cleanings and have my porcelins polished every therr months. I thought the porcelins would not stain. I am very upset over this. What can I do to keep my new teeth white without harming them? Thank you, Judy Cole
I'm 41 years old and my upper front tooth has been crowned and root canaled many years ago when I was around 15. Lately, I've noticed a lump on my gum way up near the end of the root of that tooth which is painless. The dentist had to file the back of that crowned tooth so the bottom front teeth don't hit it too hard when I bite down. Could that be the reason why the lump developed in the first place and how long does it take for the lump to go away. It has been about 5 or 6 months now and the lump is still there.
I am interested in mini dental implants. I have fairly large mandibular tori. Is it possible? I've been told I need surgery to remove the tori before I can have a permanent partial or dentures. I've been using a temporary partial for over ten years for missing lower teeth. I would like something that fits better.

Dear Doc. I had a root canal done about 8 years ago and they filled it but didn't cap it. Now 8 years later it has split at the wall of my tooth. Can my split tooth be caped?
I have had 13 teeth nerves die in the last 5 years resulting in root canals and loss of 2 teeth, not to mention the pain infection and an abcess, I have a very good dentist who has minimised the discomfort of these, (dread to think how I would have suffered If I didn't have a good dentist) I am a 47 year old female in good general health never had any major health problems and take no medication, I have regular dental check ups every 3 months brush regulary with a high flouride toothpaste floss and use mouthwash, don't eat sweets or anything that would cause any problems, but I am at a loss as to whats causing this annoying not to mention painful problem. I have reguarly had 2-3 nerves die in a year, sometimes 2 at the same time, some of these teeth are not filled and have no decay. I am begining to wonder if the problem is a medical one - it always seems to happen at times of stress or after a stressful period and more often than not just before I am due to go on holiday (a time when I should be looking forward to relaxing I am wound up with pain) If you can offer any insight into this I would be most grateful.
My two year old injured his mouth about a month ago and just now the tooth is turning black. It is not loose, just black. Do I need to take him in, or do I just let it go? We are still brushing and no other problems exist.
I had a root canal last year, i think that same tooth just cracked in half...if i wasnt that tooth i would be experiencing pain correct? Since i think its the tooth that had the root canal what do i do? It is hurting my gum quite a bit. What will the dentist do? just pull it or will a crown help? and do i go to a normal dentist or a dental surgeon? thanks

I have never been able to afford dental insurance. I have always had crappy jobs that pay so bad and the dental plans at jobs are so high that I just could not afford one. The last time I went to the dentist for a cleaning was 2005 and they told me I had a few extractions and repairs to old cavities. What do I do now?
Dear Dr. Williams: My husband dropped his dentures and chipped a small 1/2" piece off the front topmost part. He kept the chip, and was searching for super glue when I insisted he not do it until we find out if he should. He claims a dentist will only do the same. Can you tell me if it's safe for him to super glue the piece back? Thanks.
Hi, my 11 year-old son fell into a wall whilst wearing his brace - luckily his teeth survived but the gum split quite far up on one of his front teeth - this was about 10 months ago and the gum hasn't regrown at all. Is there anything we can do / have done to get the gum to rejoin? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
my tooth is not sensitive to hot or cold but is mildly sensitive to touch. IF this is a brewing infection can I start an antibiotic until I can get adequate treatment in a few weeks? I am unable to see my dentis as I am going to be away from the area for a few weeks, but can get my habnds on antibiotics. What do you recommend? MANY MANY Thanks, Lynne
I had peridontal surgery about 20 years ago, I was only about 30 and didn't ask many questions. At that time, I was told that because I had had 2 children and that my husband had peridontal desease these factors contributed to my getting the deaease. I spent the last 2 years caring for my dying mother and did not see my dentist reguarly, neither did my husband. Now I am told that it is back but that it is hereditary, and if I have the surgery and my husband doesn't have it that I can't get peridontal desease back. I am confused, I don't want to have sugery if I will potentially get the bacteria back from my husband. I did recently have the deep cleaning and have been using acidophillus since I read that this might help. Is this true?
I have had root canals on 4 front teeth the tooth beside one of them is turning gray. All these teeth will eventually turn black right?I was wondering if veneers would be an option.and if they turn black, will they just rought out?I'm 29 and would like to keep my teeth as long as possible.
the crown on my front tooth came off, and i had been using super glue until i went to the dentist, but now it came off again and i put the super glue on but the tooth wont fit back into place. help

I have a sore thraot, and the inside of my jaws are swollen with red bumps on them. I also have white stuff on my tongue that resemble thrash. It is very painful when I chew and talk. What can I do?
I am 35 weeks pregnant and i have 3 wisdom teeth coming through at the same time but the bottom left is causing alot of pain as the tooth is cutting into my cheek and causing so much pain on the left side of my jaw. Please can you tell me what my options are to have done to resolve this. thank you
Dr. Williams,I had a tooth extracted early this spring it is the last one at the back next to my jaw.it didn't seem to bother me until i started with a partial. there is a sore bump on the inside of my jar and it is bothersome it seems where the took was extracted.I am now wearing the partial either and it seems to be a dull ache. I can feel where the tooth was exctracted when I open my mouth. any help thanks
My dentist is reccomending an upper denture,I have only 4 teeth on the top all molars. Can they build a partial for this instead?
my 5yr old sons teeth are decaying rapidly,he has several holes and all his front teeth are turning black,i feel if i take him to the dentist it will be portrayed as my fault,i have 5 children who all have the same diet, they arent allowed fizzy drinks and only limited drinks, although they do like biscuits they dont eat them in excess and sweets are limited< i dont understand why his teeth are this bad is there any medical reason which could be causing this problem?
I just had a root canal done on my second to last moloar on my bottom right jaw. I feel the same pain before I had this root canal in the last molar on my right and I think the upper last molar on my right. Is it normal to feel pain in surrounding teeth after a root canal or should I believe i need another root canal in those teeth? Also I have very bad ear pain again like I did before I had my root canal. Is that a normal symptom that goes along with the pain of an infected tooth? And one last question, I am not interested in getting any more at root canals, they are too costly and I do not have dental insurance, is there anything that could be placed in the last molars spot if I had it pulled(either one on the bottom or top)and would this change the shape of my mouth and affect my bite? Thank you
My husband had an upper tooth pulled about 2 1/2 weeks ago. He imeadiately noticed that blood and other liquids (when he would drink or brush his teeth)started coming out through his nose. And the pain continued to worsen day after day. he also began to notice that when he breathed in, air went into his mouth. After one week, he went back to the dentist that pulled it. He removed the stitches and told and told my husband that he had an infection and that he also had a hole that opened into his nasal cavity. The Dr. said that although this was rare, it does happen, and that it would close up on it's own. He also put him on some antibiotics. It has been a week and a half later, and the hole doesn't seem to be getting any smaller, and he is still in a lot of pain. Is this normal? How long should something like this take to heal? Please help.
I have a painful white sore just below my bottom teeth in the middle part of my gum area. On the little piece of skin that goes down the middle from your teeth to your bottom lip. It started small but has grown everyday. It looks like something is eating my gum. Help Please?
Sir, I am having issues with my exwife saying that all my children need braces when their teeth are straight and they have no pain or problems chewing, breathing or speaking. What do I need to ask the orthodontist what is deemed medically necessary for them to absolutely have braces?
I had a cap put on a tooth about 6 months ago. It has been hurting really bad so I went in to the dentist last week. They said there is no way to tell if the cap is cracked or what is going on so my choices are to have root canal or ???. Anyways I spent over 500 out of my pocket to have cap put on and was told this would last for at least 8 or 10 years. Is this normal to have a cap crack after such a short time?
I am a 56 year old female who has had to have extensive dental work done on my teeth resulting from a number of years of bulimia. Most of my remaining teeth have been crowned for a number of years. Over the past 6+ months my upper right jaw teeth and gums have been more sensative. I made a dentist appointment last week, had my teeth cleaned and told the doctor of my discomfort. He pressed and examined the area and xrayed the area which showed no absess. The next day my jaw began to swell and the gum area very tender with pain. I called the dentist who placed me on antibiotics and referred me to a oral surgeon. My jaw became very swollen and painful. I went to the specialist and he xrayed and examined the area reporting he could not find an absess. He did uncover a crowned tooth on the bottom which he stated was very decayed and he removed the tooth. This puzzles me because most of my teeth are covered with crowns. The swelling has greatly decreased but the upper gum and teeth continue to feel very sore. I would like to know if it is possible for all of my crowned root can. teeth to be decaying and causing infection to set up in my jaw. I know all of this is consequences of my past eating disorder and I accept the suffering but I just want to know the best plan for me to deal with what I have today. We have spent a fortune on my teeth over these past 20 years and I am starting to feel as thought I would have been better off to have just had them abstracted. Can you shed some light on this problem?
I AM QUITE DESPERATE FOR HELP . I HAD 3 UPPER FRONT TEETH REMOVED ON 25/10/07 AND HAD A PARTIAL DENTURE WHICH I CAN NOT USE ANYMORE I AM CHOKING WITH IT IN MY MOUTH . I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER I COULD HAVE A BRIDGEWORK DONE TO REPLACE THE THREE FRONT TEETH.I HAVE ONLY GOT TEETH ON MY UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF MY MOUTH, AND ONE BIG TOOTH IN MY UPPER LEFT SIDE.PLEASE HELP.
Jut two weeks ago I received a porcelain crown as well as a porcelain veneer on my 2 front teeth. The one had had a root canal 20 some year ago and the other had some major fractures. I went to the color technician to get the color just right, but when the dentist put them on I notice in different lights they are yellower than the ones next to them. I was not given the chance to see the porcelains on with the pre cement...now I am not happy. Should I demand them to be redone? Thanks for your advice.
my gums hurt real bad everytime i eat candy they hurt on both sided nowe i dont have to eat anything one side of my mouth just hurt really bad and i dont knowe why could i need a root canal
Hello Dr Tooth, On October 2nd I had an abcess developed on the root of the 10th tooth. Subsequently, the abcess was gone thanks to erythromycin in a few days and I was advised to have a root canal on that tooth. How much time do I have before I must have the root canal?
Can an absessed tooth that is draining burn your throat?
I had a root canal yesterday and the dentist broke the drill bit in the root of my tooth and filled the canal. After the procedure he told me about what had happened. He did not ask me prior to filling the canal about removing it or any other options. I do not have a crown yet or a temporary. What should I do? My tooth is so sore I cannot eat at all on tha side and can't bare to touch the tooth.
I have severe peridontal disease and was wondering if there was a "temporary" quick fix for my loose teeth, large gaps between my teeth, and long tooth effect. I need upper dentures and a bridge for the lower but this procedure will cost me nearly 9,000 and I don't have that kind of money at this time nor do I have dental insurance. I have no confidence and don't leave my house but for necessary errands. I can't find a decent job (with my experience and eduation) but being in Human Resources I know that no one will hire me with the condition of my teeth. I have a job interview next week out of town but don't want to go unless I can find a temporary fix to handle the loose teeth, large gaps, bad breath, and long tooth effect. My dentist had no solution other than to have the dental procedure done immediately. Is there an over the counter product that can help with these problems until I can have the dental procedure done.
dr. williams i would like to know if novacaine can make you feel sick (or should i say makes you feel crappy after the fact) i have had some perio work done, scaling & graphing but i every time i get the novacaine i feel sick for a few days after..

I have alittle discomfort on the left side of my jaw, when I eat something also I get a little swelling too. But it goes back down to normal when my jaw is relaxed. What is my problem, and what could I do to cure this problem if any.
My 6 year old daughter has a silver crown on her teeth do you recommend that we get it removed and replaced with a crown that is the color of her teeth , she has had this crown for 1 year now . The dentist call it her princess teeth but she really wants a white tooth again. HELP
I recently had a filing on one of my upper teeths on the left side of my face. I had this procedure done 2 weeks ago and I noticed my tooth hurts when I chew gum or food on that side. Does it takes 2 weeks for the tooth to fully heal. I had white filings.
I saw a procedure on television where they pulled teeth that didn't grow straight and put them back straight. How much would something like this cost?
Hi Doctor. I'm wearing dental braces for almost 18 months. My doc advised first that I'd need no more than 12 months for my case if I want to take out 2 teeths and I refused taking out any teeth even if it needs a longer period. 8 months ago, the upper jaw was apart from the lower by 8 mm. My doc tried to get the upper jaw to back as possible and get the lower jack to front and now there are 4 mm between them. he can't send the upper jack back anymore and now we are using rubber to get the lower jack to front. almost 3 months passed and no result! 4 mm. I need to leave the country soon for good and I don't know what to do! will these 4 mm reduced or they'll still the same! I need to take the braces off asap what do you suggest please?
I had sucked my thumb for twenty years and I would like to know if the Veneers would fix the problem with the gaps in my teeth or do you have any before and after pictures of anyone who did suck their thumb and had the veneers placed?
My 19-month old son has had white stains on his upper front teeth for a few months. After brushing today, I noticed small holes on the teeth. I am assuming these are cavities/tooth decay. I immediately made an appointment with his dentist but can't get in until 2 weeks. So, at this young age, what are some of the treatments the dentist will recommend to address this problem. And will sedatives/anethesia have to be used? This makes me very nervous since he's so young.
My daughter was just 7 and one her permanent front teeth has not come in and the other is already in. She lost them three weeks apart,,,,,I am concerned....thank you
can grinding your teeth cause abrasion? If yes, How?
Hello, I have some major problems with my whole mouth. Mostly, this is due to my being such a dentaphobe, and not having insurance. I finally got a discount plan that would save me 40-60 percent, and off to the dentist I went. They said that I had infections in 6 of my teeth, and that I would need topically applied antibiotics for them, as well as a deep full mouth cleaning before any real work could be done, and the cleaning alone was going to cost 950 dollars! The "real" work was to include pulling 12 of my teeth, 2 root canals, bone grafts and partials which would run me almost 10 thousand, even with the discount. I did not go back for treatment, but I'm thinking maybe the topical antibiotic would a good thing for me, as I do get swollen in my jaw area often, and it's so painful. I can't afford to shell out 10 grand on my teeth, it's so depressing to think that it would be cheaper to just let them pull all of my teeth, and get dentures, can I get this topical myself anywhere? should it really cost 150 per tooth? Thank you!
About a month ago my daughter of 8 hit her mouth..I didn't see any trauma in or around the area. About a week later she showed me a bump in the exact same area.. worried me, the look of it...Meanwhile started complaining of a toothache in the tooth right behind the bump, went to the dentist and she said it was an infection, took x-rays and said it had a bad cavity and needed to come out.. Said that she will have to have a spacer because she wouldn't loose that tooth for about 2 more yrs. she also has a bigger bottom jaw than the top and her top teeth don't come to rest over the bottom teeth.. So she has to have a brace on her top to fix this problem and needs a spacer, so this dentist told me she will build this brace to do both things and then cement this brace/spacer onto her 2 back top jaw teeth. I don't know alot about dentistry and so I have tried to do some internet research on these precedures and devices, but not having a whole lot of luck.. Everything I have found on spacers says they only stay in for a couple of weeks and really cause alot of discomfort and pain. I haven't found anything on this brace thing she speaks of.. It worries me, if a spacer causes alot of pain and discomfort and it would have to stay on her teeth for 2 yrs, this is somthing of concern..I am just a worried mom and want to make sure I am doing right by my little girl.. So if you could help explain some of it or tell me of a website that would, I would be so less stressed and anxietied about this.. Thank You!!
For a few days I was having a little bit of a toothache. I took Tylanol and the little bit of pain that I was having would go away. Will yesterday night I was having to really day pain and my left side was just killing me. So I took 3 Tylanol and 2 Advil that a dentist told me years ago when I was having issues with a different tooth. I put a warm rice pack on my face. It finally stopped hurting so I could sleep I took the off to sleep. Then when I got up this morning the side of my face is swellon but my tooth does not hurt anymore just a little sensitive but not that much and my face is a little to. My mother said that it the bacteria that was in my tooth is not in my cheek. I would rather have my toothache back then have my face swollen. I had an ice pack on it most of the morning on and off. It still did not go down. What do I do? How do I get the swelling to go down? I read some where to crush Asprin and put it in your gums where the tooth hurts, but my tooth does not hurt I just want the swelling to go away. I have not taken anything other then Asprin and some Advil today. Help please!!!
I saw the answer you gave to the question posted about wether the hole left in the gum after having a tooth pulled will eventually fill in. Well I have the same thing going on. I had my upper back tooth pulled a month ago and I still have a hole in my gum. Food is constantly getting in it and is very hard to get out, I really don't know if I am getting it all out or not. Will this cause me a problem? Thanks Lora

My 11yr old son has begun orthodontic treatment and was fitted for head gear which he wears 14 out of 24 hours. He also wears a bite plate retainer on his upper teeth at bedtime. The problem is that the bite plate causes excess salivation and he complains of nausea and stomachaches especially in the morning. Could the retainer be causing acid reflux?
My 9 year old son just had his two upper eye teeth removed in preparation for orthodontic work. The problem began the night he had these teeth removed. He told me that his 2 upper front teeth (both Adult) were loose. Is this normal?
I have a small hole in my gum just under my existing back tooth on the tongue side. My wisdom teeth were removed years ago. I can take a pick and feel bone or tooth about an eighth inch to a quarter inch below the gum line. I'm in a lot of pain. My dentist took xrays and the tooth looks fine. He couldn't see the hole and gave me some rinse to use. Will this heal on its own? Help!!
I have been getting some pain in the back of my back lower right gum near where the jaws meet and and in my ear along with some ear stuffiness when I bite down to chew. This gum was over a wisdom tooth that was removed many years ago. I do get some sinus stuffiness on that side also. I do not have a fever. I have been under a lot of stress in the past few months.
I have a bad tooth on the right side, it hurts off and on. What I want to know is if it gets too bad can I go to the hospital and will they be able to pull it? The reason I'm asking this is because I don't have any dental insurance, please let me know.

I'm having a breast reduction in 10 days and am not suppose to take any aspirin for 2 weeks prior and 10 days after sugery. However, i'm in DIRE need of two teeth being extracted (they keep me awake at night with the pain!) but i need to know if i can have them extracted before the surgery and not cause the surgery to be delayed because of the percocet that i would need after having the teeth pulled. I went to a dentist and she gave me Penicillin to get rid of any infection that the teeth may be causing but that seemed to have caused more pain instead of helping...but i need to finish the penicillin so there is not infection...but i can't take anything other than Tylenol for the pain since surgery is right around the corner. So can i get the teeth extracted or do i have to hold out until a few days after my surgery because of the pain pills that i would need to take after the extraction???
Do you get a throbbing jaw pain if the ligaments around a tooth are sore from biting? I wear a lower partial denture, and on the right side fang tooth where the partial attaches to, I get a throbbing pain in my jaw. A coouple of months ago, I was having an arguement with someone and I accidently bit down on the tooth that my lower partial attaches to. My upper & Lower teeth are not perfectly aligned and I have a (3) semi precision attachments with lower partial. It throbs on the right side where the partial attaches to the precision attachment and the first partial tooth next to it. What could be the possible cause of the throbbing pain in my right jaw? Could I have aggraviated something. I just recently had diagnostic x-rays done and a cleaning, and I wasn't told anything was wrong. My gums are not red or swollen. I have to wear this lower partial to eat because the partial replaced three teeth on the left & the right. Please advise. Thank You.
My daughter has what looks like an abssessed wisdom tooth? What can we do to reduce the swelling?
Today's date is 11-26-07 and around the end of August of this year I was on a road trip from Florida to Iowa. During the drive up to Iowa it was getting late so I was chewing on a piece of gum to try to keep me more alert and somehow I managed to bite the inside of my left cheek. It hurt for the next couple of days but I noticed that it didn't break the skin(gum), instead it formed this kind of pocket. I was thinking it would hopefully go away on it's own and with the help of some vitamins even though this has never happened to me before when I have bitten the inside of my mouth. Now that it has not gone away by now I don't know what is going on. The pocket or what ever it is does not nessasarily hurt but it is right in the spot where my top and bottom lips meet but just right inside of my mouth. The position of it makes it very difficult to eat because when I bite down with my teeth it gets in the way and I end up biting it too. I was wondering if you maybe have an idea of what this could be and if so, what can be done to treat it. I was going to try to make an appointment with my family physician but I'm not sure if that's considered medical or dental because of it being inside of my mouth. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated! Thank You, Ashley
should u pop a cold sore?
I went to the dentist 11/26/07 for a root canal. during the procedure a file broke off. The dentist told me it would be ok and put a temporary filling in it, gave me a prescription for antibiotics and pain medication. When i decide between a bridge and a crown, I am supposed to go back and let the dentist finish repairing the tooth. Should I be concerned about leaving the file in? Will it cause complcations later?
How often do you see a Dentist for Bridge care and cleaning
Hi, I am going to get 3 wisdom teeth removd next week. 2 at the bottom and 1 at the top. Thing is, I am 3 years old and they are right on a nerve. They are really close to my jaw bone. The dentist warned my jaw bone could break..he said he had to tell me that as well as others..I have cysts on both bottom teeth. I am so scared . Is there ever a time when the teeth is too close in the jaw bone or to a nerve?? What would you do?
Hello, I suffer TMJ and recently i've noticed that on the same side of my mouth where the tmj is the worst, i've a tooth that is partially gone..and also, there is bleeding coming from either the tooth, or the gums near that same tooth. I suffer a lot of pain on that side of my mouth and recently it's been getting harder to handle. I have no dental insurance, so i cannot go to the dentist to see what is wrong, but if this is potentially dangerous to my health, i would like to know.
Hi, could you please tell me how big a hole is too big to get root canal therapy and have it filled and crowned? I ask because I got a root canal done and the hole was big enogh to stick a tooth pick through it. Now, it's twice as big. It was very decayed.

Dear Doc, As a teenager I had an unfortunate accident. I dropped a 100lbs. weight bar on my face while working out. The front of the bottom of my teeth are fake, plastic. They are almost 30 years old. They look it. Anyway, I have developed advanced gum disease and have infections on a regular basis. I want to have my front teeth pulled, but my dentist refuses to do so. Do you have any suggestions? I'm sick and tired of going to the dentist on a bi-weekly basis. How can I have my teeth removed? Please help! Randy

My 4 year old daughter is complaining of her teeth hurting. She had her first dental check up this past July (2007). I called her pediatric dentist today and was told that nothing on her chart would suggest anything would be wrong with her teeth. Do you have any insight as to what the problem could be? She is not able to eat some hard things, including pizza, which is very unusual for her. Please help!

Hi, I've had multiple root canals and I was wondering. Every time I've had one I've noticed I suck on my lower lip. Is there anything that would cause this? There was mention it may be a side effect of novocaine.
I have a cracked back tooth. It doesn't hurt, unless I bite down on something hard and has really not given me any trouble. However, I've had jaw/neck pressure and pain on that side. Could this be caused by the tooth, even though everything else with the tooth seems okay? I've had xrays and the dentist said there is no absess.

My 6 year old has started to grow her molars. One of her molars has been coming in for about 7 1/2 months and still is not all the way in. Does it take this long for the molars to come all the way in?
I recently went to a cosmetic dentist to inquire about using the Zoom whitening procedure, but the doctor said that no whitening treatment would EVER work on my teeth. She said that my mother must have been taking some medications when she was pregnant that had Tetracyclines, which cause permanent damage to the teeth once you reach adulthood. I am 39 now, and I have never smoked or drink coffee, or tea, etc and take great care of my teeth, but they have a yellowish tint, and my 3 brothers do not have the same degree of yellowing that I have, so is this dentist telling the truth, she said the only way I could improve is by getting veneers. Now I did not want to be spending $10,000 on veneers, when I hoped I could do the professional teeth whitening, have you ever heard of this? Is she telling the truth?
Dr. Williams, I have a wisdom tooth that just started causing me intense pain in the last day or two. It started bothering me on Tuesday, figured I would make an appointment soon, and on Thursday the pain sent me through the roof. I made an appointment for monday, and with my little inspection mirror, I saw my wisdom tooth was half gone and exposed pulp and nerves. I've tried every OTC analgesic I can find, orajel and the temporary fillings, anything to dull the pain for a few minutes. The only thing I have found is cold water rinses about every 5 minutes or so. On the plus side, I'm better hydrated now than I have ever been in my life, but what can I do to ease the pain?
All of my teeth are slightly loosened and alot of them are rotten and chipped with holes in them.I cannot afford to have them all pulled at this time.Is there any ways to loosen and remove rotten teeth at home?

My child is 3 years old and just received silver caps over two of his front teeth because they were decaying. and now he talks with a lisp. The dentist said that it would be healthy for his permanent teeth. I was wondering if silver caps were safe for children or could there possibly be an alternate route for this problem

I have gum recession, and am supposed to see a peridonist. I was told that if I want to get braces, depending on what the peridonist says,I might have to have surgery on the areas that the recession is in, about 4 places. I don't have dental insurance where I work. Can you give me an estimation of how much this would cost? Thankyou, Wendy R. Foss

correction - in looking at a tooth chart the tooth that was pulled was the second premolar on the bottom. (5th tooth over from the center)

Dr. I just have a quick question about my tongue. Over the past several months i have been under alot of stress. For some reason my tongue turns an orangish/yellowish color. This usually only happens when im stressed. It is getting better the past month or so. I have turned into a hypochondriac the past 4 months after a friend of mine died from cancer at the age of 30. I am getting better. My doctor assured me im fine and is not exactly sure why it turns orange. Can this be caused by alot of stress? This is the only thing that is really getting me stressed. Like i stated it only happens when i keep looking at my tongue or when im thinking about it. There is no pain or no sores. Sometimes it just turns orange. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tom

Hi, i was eating a chocolate the other day which was rather hard and i bit down on it and my teeth slipped off the chocolate. It really hurt at the time but i didn't get any sharp pain or anything. That evening before i was going to bed i was brushing my teeth like i always do with my electric toothbrush and a small piece of my top wisdom tooth came away. It is about the size of a apple pip. it doesn't hurt but it really frightened me. I am 25 years old and have never been to the dentist. I have been blessed with good straight teeth and have never needed to go. I am so scared however I am scared of needles, scared of the chair the drill the smells sounds everything. I know it sounds dramatic but i can't help it. Thats how i am. I was wondering if a dentist would give me a filling without an injection? i am so scared i am trying to find the courage to even go and show him, please help me.Many thanks.

About a month ago I had two teeth extracted on the top right side of my mouth. I've just noticed now what feels like a small, hard lump on the gum just above where I had one tooth pulled (on the front, not back). It doesn't really hurt, and I wondered if this could be part of a tooth or something else? Also, part of my tooth on the bottom feels very sharp and jaggerdy. It is next to an extraction site that is a few years old. Should I see the
