Frequently Asked Questions

I have a child that just turned 2 years old. Is now a good age for her to start seeing a dentist? If so, what should I expect to happen at her first appointment?

Great question. Children can start seeing the dentist after their first birthday, but those early visits are mostly to educate the parents about how to care for their infant/child's teeth. This type of visit may continue until the child is three years old or can reasonably understand that the dentist wants to look in their mouth. These visits should lay a good foundation for later visits by developing a relationship early between dentist and child. When the child can cooperate, the dentist will polish their teeth and check for obvious decay. X-rays and fluoride treatments are not usually performed at the age of two unless specific problems are seen.
