Frequently Asked Questions

I have tried so many products over the counter and I still think my breath is not as fresh as I would like it to be. What do you recommend, I have a bridge in my mouth which is over 15 years, do you think it could be one of my cause of my breath problem?

There are many many causes of bad breath and all of us wish our breath was fresher than it is. The most common problem is bacteria on the back of the tongue. You may have seen tongue scrapers on the backs of toothbrushes. If you're not much of a gagger, this is a great way to freshen your mouth. The next most common reason is bacteria around restorations that you can't clean thoroughly and a bridge is a good example. Equal to the bacteria on fillings and crowns is the bacteria under your gums. If your gums bleed when you brush, this is an indication that you have bacteria that only your dentist can remove with a deep cleaning. In addition to these ideas, acid reflux also causes bad breath and dry mouth is a huge contributor to bad breath. Almost every commonly taken medication causes dry mouth (ibuprofin, antihistamines, anti cholestrol, anti anxiety, etc)so frequent drinking or sipping of water will help. I hope these ideas help.
