Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Williams-- I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and in need of some dental work. (I'm a procrastinator of the WORST kind!)--I've got a filling that feels broken, but only hurts once in a while. (However, I don't want it to get worse.) I've also got a root canal that I never went back to have crowned. (It's been a little over a year.) And it's getting a bit...sensitive. Is there anything I can do now, while I'm pregnant? Please keep in mind--I'm a WHIMP when it comes to pain, and if any serious work needs done, I can't do it without novacaine. :-) Thank u for your help. Lynette

The second and third trimesters of pregnancy are safe for many dental procedures. A broken filling and having your teeth cleaned are both important procedures to have performed during pregnancy. Consult with your dentist for their recommendation about a crown for your tooth with the root canal. Best wishes for the delivery of your new baby.
