DentaQuest Taking a Proactive Approach to the Oral Health of its Members -- 4/28/2006
Boston, MA, March 7, 2006 – DentaQuest Mid-Atlantic, Inc. and DentaQuest Virginia, Inc., announce another oral health initiative that was launched last month to promote the oral health of their members. As a follow-up to three new benefits that were recently added for members at-risk for dental disease, DentaQuest will be taking oral health a step further by providing proactive educational information to members who may benefit from one of these treatments.
In July 2005, DentaQuest began covering prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste for members who had osseous (gum) surgery to help prevent root caries, and Chlorhexidine antimicrobial mouthrinse for those who had scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) to help reduce harmful bacteria and inflammation in the gums. In addition, DentaQuest extended sealant coverage for members age fifteen to nineteen years, who have had a recent cavity and may be at-risk for further decay.
Last month, based on their history of past treatment, members who may benefit from one of the newly-covered treatments will receive a special message printed on their Explanation of Benefits (EOB) as well as an educational brochure regarding the specific treatment. These educational materials will encourage members to speak with their dentist to determine if the specific treatment is appropriate for them. In addition, dentists will receive similar reminder messages regarding these additional benefits for members at risk for dental disease.
According to Dr. Doyle Williams, chief dental officer, “Health care consumerism has changed dramatically in the past five years. More and more health conscious people are searching for information on how to stay healthy. The new dental benefit feature added by DentaQuest not only provides information about effective preventive treatments, but more importantly, it lets people know that they may be at an increased risk for experiencing dental disease and that they can benefit from the preventive care. Preventive care works only if people are aware of it, understand that they can benefit from it and ultimately receive it. This new feature of our benefit plan helps ensure that that happens for our members.”
DentaQuest Mid-Atlantic, Inc. and DentaQuest Virginia, Inc., based in Calverton, MD are owned by Boston-based DentaQuest Ventures, one of the largest dental benefit service companies in the country with over nine million members and 600 employees. DentaQuest offers a full range of commercial dental plans including indemnity, PPO, managed care, dual and triple option, and voluntary plans in Maryland and the District of Columbia through DentaQuest Mid-Atlantic, Inc., and in Virginia through DentaQuest Virginia, Inc. DentaQuest Venture’s Doral Dental USA subsidiary is the largest multi-state administrator of government dental programs in the U.S.
