Brian Watts
Director of Sales, Western Region

With over 30 years in the dental benefits industry, Brian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role at DentaQuest.  He was named to his current position of Director of Sales for the Western Region in October of 2014 following a career marked by innovation, hands-on problem solving, and an ability to understand the complex intricacies of the health care marketplace.
Brian started his career in dental benefits in 1985 as State Manager of National Dental Health’s (NDH) Arizona HMO.  He was swiftly promoted in the organization, assuming regional responsibility for Nevada and New Mexico in 1987 and for California in 1989.  In 1998, following a series of corporate acquisitions, Brian transitioned to the senior role of Director of National HMO Sales for Protective Life Insurance Company.  In 2000, he joined First Dental Health as the Vice President of Sales, and he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Sales in 2006.
Brian has a strong track record of growing new and existing dental products, and he is experienced in all aspects of the dental benefits industry including sales, sales management, marketing, operations, provider recruitment, and underwriting.  He has also established himself as a respected thought-leader on compliance and the complex regulatory affairs that govern health care administration.  In 1986, he helped secure NDH’s first insurance license, making the company one of the first dual-choice dental plans in the country, and in 1989, he helped NDH secure its Knox-Keene license.  Subsequently, in 2006, Brian guided First Dental Health’s successful effort to become California’s first Knox-Keene licensed discount plan.  In addition to his strong communications and customer service skills, Brian cites his regulatory and compliance expertise as a true value-add for clients in the increasingly complex health care space.
Brian’s knowledge has been leveraged by his colleagues and peers through his service on the boards of the National Association of Dental Plans, the California Association of Dental Plans, and the San Diego Employee Benefits Council.  He has also served as a member of the California Association of Health Underwriters and has written articles for such publications as Employee Benefit Plan Review, CalBroker Magazin and ProducersWEB.
Brian earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Organizational Communication from Ohio University.
