Healthy Connections

DentaQuest provides dental coverage to eligible members of Healthy Connections, South Carolina's Medicaid program which serves adults, children and people who receive an Intellectual Disability and Related Disabilities (IDRD) Waiver.

Prevention 

• Oral exams (every six months for children/IDRD Waiver and annually for adults)
• Dental cleanings (every six months for children/IDRD Waiver and annually for adults)
• X-rays (every six months for children/IDRD Waiver and annually for adults)
• Fluoride treatments
• Sealants (age requirements apply) 

Treatments

• Fillings
• Extractions
• Other medically necessary care
• Prefabricated crowns (children/IDRD Waiver only)
• Dentures (children/IDRD Waiver only)
• Root canals (children/IDRD Waiver only)

Additional

• Anesthesia
• Emergency dental care for life threatening conditions such as cancer or trauma
• Care prior to major surgeries such as transplants, total joint and heart valve replacements or when receiving chemotherapy or radiation
• Any medically necessary dental services not listed above covered by the Early and Periodic Screening,
• Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit

Each adult Medicaid member (ages 21 and older) has an available annual benefit of $1,000 in covered dental care (extractions, fillings and annual cleaning) each year (July 1-June 30).

Services must be medically necessary and provided by a dentist that accepts Healthy Connections Medicaid. Services rendered for cosmetic purposes or for the convenience of the dentist or the member, are not covered.
